Today's word doesn't come often in a conversation, but when it does, you know everything is fine.
copacetic
/ˌkəʊpəˈsɛtɪk,-ˈsiːt-/
Let's hear it..
Thanks to Emma Saying for the pronunciation!
What does it mean ?
Well this word doesn't have multiple definitions, one could think it's quite boring...
-it simply means in excellent order, completely satisfactory
Origin
What is not boring about this word is its origin. Mostly because no one can pinpoint it. There are some theories about where it comes from though , one of them saying it comes from African Americans in the Southern US in the late 19th century , another that it derives from Cajun French coup esètique / coupersètique meaning "able to cope with everything and anything", another one that it derives from copasetti used by Italian speakers in New York.
My favorite theory , even if it has been rejected, is that it comes from Hebrew הכל בסדר (hakól b'séder, “everything is in order”) . It was rejected mostly because it comes from criminals observation that everything is ok because "the cop is on a settee".
I'll end this post with a song and i hope you enjoyed it!
