WordCamp Europe 2018
Last weekend (June 14-16), only the largest WordPress event took place in Europe, entitled WordCamp Europe 2018 (see more details here)
And while the event highlighted a variety of topics, such as JS APIs in WordPress, Unit testing, prototyping, branding,...yet the key topic on the show had been Gutenberg, the long awaited revolutionary concept that WordPress has been promoting for some time now.
As officially announced, Gutenberg will be part of the upcoming WordPress 5.0, planned to be released in August this year.
Gutenberg
Gutenberg is aimed to reinvent the editor experience currently present in WordPress, and modernize the whole editing and content creation process via the introduction of rich editor experience, along with the concept of blocks. Gutenberg is presented as a plugin, and is planned to come out in 3 stages, the first of which as mentioned above is alongside WordPress 5.0.

WpBeirut Meetup Translating Gutenberg
So our team at wpBeirut invited us to cooperate together and contribute to Gutenberg alongside other global contributions, and kick off the translation effort into Arabic, our native language, to initiate the support from our side for this great project, and so we did today :)
We had a team of five joining to start the work. Yes that is Starbucks, and of course lots of caffeine was consumed :)
You can even see the "Translating WordPress" screen on my laptop.
WordPress host their own portal for translation, which is accessible via translate.wordpress.org
Another view of the team busy translating :)
We had a 2.5 hours meeting, and we managed to translate approximately 40%+ of the Gutenberg Arabic version
And just checking now, well what do you know, turns out I was the top translator of the project, seriously I am surprised atm LOL
We will have upcoming sessions to complete the translation effort of course.
Steemit, Utopian, and Davinci
While the meeting was all about WordPress, essentially, yet it was a good opportunity, again, to tell my friends about Steemit and Utopian, especially that we were doing translation activity for WordPress, and hence Davinci project of course !
I explained how we were rewarding translations for open source projects, and that we kicked off the project again with the help of the Davinci team, with hopefully soon "Arabic" support in the upcoming phases!
Hopefully one or more of the guys would be interested in joining either as translators, or contributing under any of the other utopian categories we have (tutorials maybe? :D )
