This is just a reminder that soon I might stop posting so often.
I talked in previous posts how I will leave for work soon and how I won't have so much free time to write and post articles, and that will very soon happen. I will leave this Saturday to Germany. I'll arrive Sunday if everything goes well. Then Monday will be a free day for me, hopefully, and then Tuesday I'll begin work.
I'll work 6 days a week, with only a single free day. I'll be starting at 9 in the morning, and I'll be finishing at 10 PM, with a 2-3 hours break in the middle of the program, time that I'll probably spend sleeping. I'll come back home in November.
As you can imagine, I have a limited amount of free time. I'll spend most of my days working and in my free time I'll try to catch up with reading a bit. I managed to finish reading four books in the time that I was home this year, most of them fairly long, and now I'm on the fifth one, a single big volume containing all the "The Lord of the Rings" books. I almost finished half of it, and I hope I'll get to finish the rest by the time I'll leave.
While I'm there, I have a few books that I really want to read, especially regarding philosophy. I want to go back to learning more about Stoicism (God knows I'll need it) and to study a bit about other branches of philosophy.
Here's the list of books I'd like to read while away:
How to be a stoic – Massimo Pigliucci
Meditations – Marcus Aurelius
A better Human – The stoic heart, mind and soul
A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy - William Braxton Irvine
Thinking skills – Critical thinking and problem solving - Geoff Thwaites
Plato – Five Dialogues
Nietzsche – The Gay Science
Nietzsche - Beyond good and evil
I already read the first book around two years ago, but I want to pick it up again because it was a good introduction to Stoicism the first time. Then I want to actually read Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius, a book I didn't get the chance to read earlier. The rest are completely new to me, but I'll give them a try. I also have a few extra on my phone that I'll want to pick up. Hopefully I'll get to read all those plus a few books that I might buy from there if I find anything interesting, although it's going to be a little hard to buy anything locally because most books are in German.
How much time I'll be able to dedicated to writing? I'm not sure. Between working, reading and spending time with my girlfriend who's also working in the same place, it's going to be a bit difficult to write and post every single day. But it's not that bad in the end. I'm already starting to run out of ideas when it comes to articles, and taking a bit of a break and going through a few good books that go into topics I don't know a lot about (especially Nietzsche) will help be broaden my understanding of life and will challenge me to think of a lot of things in different ways, which will benefit me and the content I create.
As I said, I'll spend 7 months there and I'll be back in November, if nothing goes wrong. Once I'm home, I should be able to get back to my normal writing and posting schedule, but I won't promise anything because a lot can happen in such a long time.
I'll keep on writing and posting up until Saturday and then I'll see. I might write some extra articles to post even while I'm on the road, using my phone and laptop, but I can't promise anything.
If anything comes up, I'll post an update here. Otherwise, I'll try to keep things going on like this for as long as possible. With a bit of luck, maybe I'll even continue to regularly post.
