Yesterday I wrote a short update in which I mentioned that I wasn't gonna post anything too complex because I was feeling sick again, and I wanted to rest.
Today, the same thing applies, without the feeling sick part. I feel better, although not fully recovered. I initially thought that I might be getting Covid or just a bad cold, but all it took was a long night's sleep to make some of the symptoms go away, in which, according to my girlfriend, I snored like crazy, meaning I had a very good sleep, because I don't normally snore.
I attribute that entire unpleasant situation to being overworked.
I already mentioned in some of the articles I posted last week that lately we've been quite understaffed at work (we were missing 6 people) and that everyone had to do more than before in order to make up for those who weren't there. My part in all of that was to do the job of one of the people who got Covid, a job that I had no idea how to do, a job I never did before.
As you'd expect, I made mistakes, and I worked way more than usual simply because I didn't exactly knew what I was doing. Although on my normal position I would know how much of everything to prepare, when to get what I need and when I could wait, on the new position I was clueless, so I was constantly running around, getting sauces, changing salads, cutting vegetables, washing dishes and so on, basically putting in way more effort than the other guy, who knew what he was doing.
The fact that I had to do all this during a very busy week made things even worse. All that, in combination with very little free time available and quite a lot of stress, got me so exhausted that I probably started showing symptoms.
After a good night's sleep, some pills, food, and a free day of relaxing and doing things I like, I feel way better. Not fully recovered, but better. I guess the moral of the story is that a short break can do wonders when you're so overworked that your body is slowly staring to give up on you.
Don't neglect yourself. If you can, take some well deserved time and spend it resting, doing things you enjoy and relaxing.
