I've just come up with the following formula for sorting out which work tasks I should do first:
Anticipated return (in terms of traffic generated/ revenue*) divided by the amount of time I anticipate it's going to take me to do something.... the higher the score, the higher the priority.
*a relative score based on hits/ revenue already being generated by similar posts.
The general idea is that a priority post should be something that's both quick to produce and yields a high return.
I just applied it to my Thursday to Sunday to do list, and also included a few Monday tasks to see how they compare....
It's a first draft, and there's some intuition in there, but it's basically reinforcing what I already know... my basic 'churny' A-level posts which generate high traffic/ revenue are much more 'worthwile' than the posts on steemit... NB I am factoring in the fact that hardly anyone looks at anything on steemit/ and also being pessimistic about the long term return.
Ironically, the thing I'm actually going to work on today is the thing which scores 0.3333, but that's because it's Thursday, and I WANT to work on this, towards the end of the week, having already done several newsy and A-level posts earlier on.
Doubly ironically, the thing I should be working on - Google SEO (for WP) I can't face right this moment, maybe this afternoon!
However, it's not that ironic, because what I've actually done is organize my working week so I do 'high return posts' on Monday to Weds (WP) and then the posts I WANT to write but which will probably yield me a lower return on Thursday-Sunday.
What can I say, gotta earn a dollar, and one has to compromise in this life.... having said that I actually quite enjoy working on the WP blog and doing the A level stuff, it's just that if I had all the money in the world, I'd probably spend even more time just reading and writing about what I want (and just filling up my steemit feed with shitty posts about me rambling through the woods).
Anyway, just thought I'd share, I've been meaning to put together a spread sheet to do list for ages, and finally got around to it.
