As people tend to be more mobile than before, and flexible workspace does have advantages though there may be negative effects.
First, it gives flexibility in terms of working time. We can use a laptop, iPad or smartphone to work at anyplace and anytime. We can even utilise a cafe whereby it is meant not only for coffee but also extended time for people to do their things as long as they would not intrude other people’s privacy.
Secondly, it provides a variety of working environment. As it can cause tired feeling for some people working at the same place all the time, to be at a different workspace can perhaps provide freshness for them. Consequently, this may enable them to work more efficiently.
Nevertheless, flexible workspace may also have negative effects to some people. One of the negative effects is about work discipline. As it is flexible working time, a person who lacks discipline may procrastinate one’s work or being distracted due to a new working environment. For those who work hard may become over busy like the workaholic since they virtually can work as long as they want without keeping standard office hours.
We are in a different time, and each one has to be wise and able to inculcate a working habit, which is not only effective but also healthy.
