Bled’s culinary speciality, Kremšnita, is definitely a winner in my books. Of course, I loved all that Slovenian cuisine had to offer, from Italianesque pasta dishes to heavy Eastern European stews. But the cream cake has a special place in my heart. It’s made of a couple thin layers of pastry filled with—you guessed it—two layers of whipped cream, one thicker than the other. The outside of the pastry is powdered with sugar, and the whole thing goes down well with rich, dark coffee. You can try the cake at a number of different places around the lake, and no one really seems to know for sure where the treat originated. But no matter where you try it, you’re sure not to be disappointed!!
