Frank R. Bledsoe was a machine gunner in WW2. This is his first hand story. He managed to evade being shot by the Germans by putting his hands up as they forced him to walk. The Germans who'd captured him began to get fired at by the allies. My grandpa Frank R. Bledsoe fell down in the snow to play dead and evade being shot himself.
He feel to the snowy ground where he stayed until he was carried away, presumed dead. Unaware of who was moving his body he waited until he heard Americans speak. That's when the surrounding soldiers were shocked because my grandfather said the code word. He was very well alive but suffered frozen feet from playing dead as he was in the snow surrounded by fallen German soldiers.
He was lucky his captures got gunned down or he may have became a prisoner of the Germans in the war.
This story was recorded by my sister Andrea Bledsoe
