Funny how nothing really surprises me any more. Ever catch yourself saying after some event "that doesn't surprise me one bit"? When was the last time you were truly surprised by something going on in the markets or the world? I think we are being conditioned to no longer be surprised, conditioned to accept. That way we are less inclined to take action against something we find truly shocking or appalling. And its everywhere, whether you're watching it on television, in the markets, the world or just sitting it traffic, it seams nothing surprises me anymore. Everything is bigger, more grand, more dramatic, more consuming, more controversial.
This morning sitting in my car at a light I saw a young women starting to cross the street with her eyes glued to her phone. She got the white light to walk from the Walk Signal, but wasn't paying attention to what was going on around her. As she started to cross the street she was almost hit by a car still trying to clear the intersection (maybe even ran the red light). Fortunately she was barely missed, actually she almost walked into the side of the passing car. I thought, how tragic would it have been if this young woman had been hit, just because she didn't look up, because she trusted the white painted lines on the concrete and the signal on the other side telling her it was all clear. Afterward I said aloud to my passenger " doesn't surprise me one bit, she was on her damn phone".
What was the last thing you remember that surprised you? or didn't?
