In a bid to commemorate this year's World Cleanup Day on the 19th of Septemeber 2020, change-makers from Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon held a preparatory meeting on the 16th of August 2020 at Blue Pearl Hotel Plaza to establish a plan of action for this year's World Cleanup Day.
The eeting started at 3:06 PM with a welcome word from the Regional coordinator, Mr. Herman who thanked all for making it. He also called on all present to be proactive because the opinion of everyone was the most important factor during the meeting.
Next was self introduction of participants and the organizations they represent.
On main business of the day, the following resolutions were arrived at:
A. Activities before the event
- That identification of sites for cleaning should be continuous till a few days to the D-day given that some of the sites can be cleaned up before then by other initiatives.
- On partners and sponsorship, the City Council, Delegation for Environment and Nature protection, Bamenda I, II and III Councils, HYSACAM, other youth groups not involve in yet, etc were earmarked as the major partners and sponsors to seek assistance from. And that given the time constraint, letters be served to the above structures as soon as possible.
- On mobilization, it was agreed that various groups and individuals should concretely confirm the number of participants available for the activities. Also, quarter heads of cleaning sites be contacted for mobilization, on radio programs, churches as well as use posters to raise awareness about the day and proper waste management tips.
- On cleaning equipment to be used, it was agreed that each volunteer comes along with a machete, hoe, spade, broom, digger, and any other thing that can help in the activity. While other cleaning tools will be sort out from the various councils and HYSACAM.
- On T-shirts, the coordinator said while some will be requested from partners, the national office is expected to assist with some of the t-shirts and other gadgets to facilitate the activities.
B. Activities on the D-Day
- Several sites should be identified so as to have a limited number of people to participate per site due to the Corona virus pandemic.
- Site heads will be chosen to coordinate activities at various locations.
C. Activities after the event
- Evaluation meetings be held
- Reports
- Thank you notes to all stakeholders
- Continuous action on waste management
On other matters, it was resolved that Certificates of participation be issued to participants of the event.
The Certificates will be endorsed by the Regional Delegation of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, , Lets Do It Cameroon and major partners of the event.
Conclusion
The coordinator, Mr. Kongni Herman thanked all present for the wonderful deliberations and called on all to give in their best as volunteers for a successful event given that service to humanity is the best work of life. Deliberations were agreed to continue via the WhatsApp group.
