You need to focus on every aspect of your life. You focus on your finance, you focus on your relationship, you focus on your career, marriage, spiritual matters, and every other thing that constitutes your life. You can’t leave one for another. Yes, you can’t focus on most, leaving the others.
Football has taught us that. To achieve a good level of success, focus on every aspect of your life. You can’t be making good money and still allow it to be draining as much as it is coming. Financial intelligence is needed. If you can’t manage it yourself, employ someone else to, most people do that. If you are good at making the money and you are not too keen or interested in how to manage it, employ someone else to. It saves you a lot more than you are spending.
The bottom line is, every aspect of your life is very vital and important, so do well to focus on every aspect, leaving none behind.
Always be prepared. That is another thing life has taught me. You don’t wait to have every moment perfect, you have to learn to make an imperfect moment perfect for you. Life won’t always give you what you deserve but what you demand. Place a demand on what you want and see what happens.
Being prepared means taking good use of every opportunity that comes your way and that means you have to keep your motivations high at all times, regardless of contrary situations around you.
This brought to mind the missed chances by Ighalo for Nigeria. He had two chances to put Nigeria ahead and deflate Argentinians' moods, but he missed it.
Preparation has to meet with opportunities. When opportunities come, be prepared to take it. Some have other opportunities and some others might not or it takes longer before it comes again. Whatever it is, be prepared because you don’t know when your moment will come.
I remembered Rashford too for England and Manchester United. He is a young forward, an exciting prospect, but then he wasted a wonderful chance for England to draw level with Belgium during their tie. That could have been the lifeline England needed to win or draw, which could spike their motivation level. That miss proved vital as Belgium won and knocked England away from the top spot, which could have seen them play Japan. He did the same when Manchester United played Manchester City. His miss also proved costly for his club side.
He wasn’t a regular starter as some players are also, but the moment they come on, they expect them to be prepared to take their chances. Most coaches would tell you, the moment a player starts coming off the bench to be decisive for his team, it is a great sign that he is staking his claim for a first-team shirt. Always stay prepared because life will always give you opportunities and you have to be able to take it.
Always be prepared.
