Hey everyone, at the beginning I would like to welcome you to my new contribution and hope you have a week which has brought some interesting experiences into your life! In this post I would like to share a unique experience with you which I made in Bucharest and I am happy if you like my contribution.
Old mills, traditional houses and many other aspects of traditional life are offered by the National village museum or Dimitrie Gusti and it was the first time I visited a museum like this which is more reminiscent of a small village and it's as if the visitors had arrived in another time. The museum is located more outside the old town and the goal of the museum is to share the traditional culture of Romania and the houses that can be admired here come from different parts of the country and were brought to Bucharest by various transport routes and some of these houses are already hundreds of years old. I think it makes it to something very special that a large part is in the original condition and has not been reconstructed and the museum is divided into different eras and there is an old as well as a new village and everywhere signs can be seen in front of the buildings, which go into more detail on the history or the construction of the buildings. I visited it on a day when the weather was good and would recommend this in any case because almost everything takes place outdoors and only a few of the houses can be visited and on the area, I have also walked past stands where people have sold traditional Romanian things like eggs.
Other buildings are also a good example of traditional craftsmanship and, in addition to the outdoor exhibition, there is also the possibility to visit one indoors in which also different aspects of Romanian culture such as traditional dances or dresses can be admired. Because it's located a little more outside the city, it's in my eyes a perfect way to escape from the urban jungle and also the entrance fee is more than fair and cost about 30 Lei which corresponds to about 6$. The area of the entire museum amounts to proud 14 hectares and I am really happy to made this experience and would like to recommend to every visitor of the city to put it absolutely on the list and I think there is something for everyone here and would definitely describe it as family-friendly. How much time someone spends here depends, but if you want to see everything exactly, you need about two to three hours and I visited it shortly after opening and it was even like nothing going on and I was very happy to immerse myself in the traditional life of the country.
Many thanks for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about Bucharest! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens and iPhone 16.
