Hey everyone, the weekend is slowly coming to an end and I hope you were able to make some interesting experiences! In my new post I would like to share an experience with you which I made on one of my last trips to Romania and I am happy if you can learn new things.
In one of my last posts I wrote about my visit to Dracula Castle or Bran and on the same day, I also visited the well-known Peleş Castle, which has developed into one of the most important landmarks of the country. I personally liked this castle more than Bran because it was not nearly so crowded and I had more time to look at everything more closely and also from the inside, the castle was much more interesting and is associated with an extremely interesting history. Peleş was built at the end of the 19th century and the various architects who were involved in the construction have come up with quite different ideas and in addition to the unique architecture, it was also one of the castles in Europe which was technologically far ahead and was operated with energy that was generated in the near region. It has an extremely intelligent electrical system and the construction of it alone has already taken over ten years and with this milestone, Romania was far ahead of other countries in Europe and the technological advances were so far ahead that the most of the normal society didn't even know them.
The builder is King Carol (1839 - 1914) who had decided to build a place of retreat and this area near the town of Sinais was the best decision for him and the location alone which is surrounded by mountains was a perfect basis for him and it can be said that nature was an important factor for him. It took several decades until the castle was completely completed and influences from different countries flowed into the construction and with over 150 rooms which were designed in different ways, the castle is an absolute masterpiece which mixes modern influences with others from past times. Carol was a great friend of blacksmithing and in the castle there is a large collection of different weapons as well as armour and he has attached great importance to obtaining this from blacksmiths from the surrounding area. The interiors generally create an extremely magnificent and elegant effect and each room has a certain peculiarity to offer and it must also be mentioned that Carol was very sceptical during the construction and personally supervised his employees, which confirmed what an important passion the construction of the castle was for him.
In the castle there is also a considerable collection of various works of art to see and also the outdoor area is equipped with sculptures which all look extremely realistic or detailed and generally various facets of the culture were illuminated. It's definitely a very exciting place and already the trip there which leads through traditional villages as well as breathtaking nature was already a unique experience and from Bucharest the drive took about two hours. Depending on which options are booked, the entrance fee was slightly more expensive than with other sights and I also think it's great that during the construction they tried to use regional resources if possible. Looking back, I would definitely recommend it because of the great variety that can be seen here and even if I personally liked Peleş Castle better, it can definitely be worth taking a day trip and also visiting the Bran castle.
