There's plenty of science out there that links social media with depression.
Especially when it comes to younger individuals. But did you know some of it stems from the fact many are seeking approval?
Indeed many people get depressed or anxious when they don't get as many likes or views on their posts. Most notably Simon Sinek has pointed this out when he said:
“Some times we go on facebook and send messages to our friends saying “hi”, “hi”, “hi”, “hi” just to get a response.”
A lot of that boils down to us needing dopamine, a feel good drug that our brain produces. It's highly addictive and the more we get it, the more that we want. However when we don't get, many people resort to getting frustrated, getting anxious, stressed, or even depressed about it.
In the article linked below I explain in more detail about the problem, but also what has worked for me in the past and how you can apply that in your own life.
