Conflict is inevitable as long as we live together especially in a multi-ethnic, cultural and religious community. However, violence leaves us with various forms of retardation and underdevelopment resulting from the destruction of lives and properties. Research findings revealed that conflicts in Nigeria are largely struggles over economic and political control. Apart from loss of lives and property, it has profound influence on residential relationships leading to polarization of communities. This is evident in a physical manifestation of mono religious areas in Jos city, with Christians and Muslims living in dominant religious clusters.
Violent conflict in Nigeria, like other parts of the world has created rift in human relations, among many other effects Conflict is undoubtedly a major cause of underdevelopment. And widely accepted based on researches that underdevelopment is a major cause of conflict. Thus, giving rise to a vicious cycle in which poverty begets conflict and conflict begets poverty, summarized as “the conflict trap” by (Paul Collier and Others).
Globally, conflicts exist within and among nations.
Exploring “The invasion of Iraq” (March 19-May 1. 2003), it appeared to be a vivid example of interconnectedness of the world, after the adverse effects of the invasion in Iraq. It affected countries like Jordan, Syria, where they experienced a weakened macroeconomic situation in the aftermath of the war in Iraq. Taking the contemporary issues in the world today, let consider the Conflict tension between the US and North Korean government. Clearly, the biggest and most important impact of any conflict between the two countries either nuclear or conventional would be a catastrophic loss of life and huge human suffering. But the economic impacts of what would most likely turn out to be a major international conflict. All these are as a result of low level of cooperation which is heartwarming the community, nation and the global world as a whole. More importantly, to curtail these struggles, preventive policies are necessary, especially for the survival and development of human existence .
