A friend as old as time
Existing way before our time
Since generations, always as bitter as lime
For long ago it became a foe of mine
A destination we must always reach
A journey even as we search
For ways to prolong our stay with research
Must end, all efforts futile and wretched
Yesterday, bones green and growing
Today, bones strong and steadying
Tomorrow, bones weak and wiggling
In future, bones dead and decaying
A kidney once filtrating now shrivelling
No peace is felt when no pee is flowing
A liver once detoxifying now detaining
No jauncing is done when jaundice is deepening
A heart once pumping now pooling
No muscle exerting when myocardium is enlarging
A brain once functioning now forgetting
No person is loved when personality is lost
Eyes once seeing now diming
Ears once hearing now ringing
Nose once smelling now sniffling
Tongues once tasting now thinning
Your two eyes become four
All in a bid to see further
Your two legs become three
All in a bid to walk farther
Before you were crawling
Now you are running
Later you'll be rolling
In a wheel chair or a trolley
All is a story
Of our life's journey
Which is a tourney
That always ends in a coffin.
