There is a connection between freedom and protection, only few people are conscious of this. Freedom can be defined as the ability to live with little/no boundaries, laws or regulations. A bird in the wild is free, it spreads its wings and fly as high as it can, it lands on a tree as it wants and it can eat whatsoever that appeals to its appetite. Protection on the other hand is putting up measures to keep someone safe. A law or regulation can pass as protection. Like the example of the bird in the wild, it can be protected by putting in a cage or zoo. This is to make sure it is safe from predators or preserve it as an endangered species.
With the definition above, it is obvious that protection may hinder our freedom. This means, it will give us little or no freedom like we desire but it is for our good. When there are troubles in some countries, the government declares curfew as a protection measure. This will hinder the movement and freedom of the people but will keep them safe. We shouldn’t be too focused on freedom and lose protection, the end result is always brutal.
Let us take a good look at the Tortoise, very cunny animal. Most times when a prey wants to devour it, it quickly hides in his shell. This means the shell was created as a protection measure for it. Now imagine the Tortoise tired of dragging the shell everywhere and decides to leave it behind because it needs freedom, it will be devoured by the smallest wild animal. This can be connected to our lives, we should always value the protection measures around us and not seek total freedom from them. It is very dangerous.
This sermon should be preached to the teenagers and youths especially. The way they seek for freedom these days is alarming, they look for money so they can stand alone, drive the latest cars and rule the world when they are supposed to still be under their parents’ protection. We have seen the end result countless times. A daughter who has been good when she was under her parents’ protection will get admission to study in the university and because of the freedom start misbehaving so much. Freedom should be cultured or else, we lose our morals and standards.
There are rules set out by higher authorities, some may pass as the constitution, and others may just be regulations. If we observe critically, they are 100% implemented to protect us in one way or the other. We should therefore never let our freedom threaten these laws, this means we don’t care about protection. It is definitely wrong because anyone who breaks the law will dance to the tune of the law. The only way we can balance freedom and protection is to be conscious of whatsoever we do. This will act like a guide to tell us what we are doing is right or wrong and the consequences of every actions taken.
Finally, whenever we are free, we should stay protected. Don’t break rules, don’t overstep your boundaries and know your limits while you enjoy this freedom. Every form of protection may halt our freedom but most times, it is for our safety if properly managed. A criminal will be put in prison where he is derived of total freedom but if properly managed, he will come out a change man. When protection measures halt your freedom, it doesn’t mean the end. It can be a blessing in disguise if well-managed. Thank you.
