Yesterday's story Here
I really enjoyed the replies yesterday. They entertained me as much as I hope the story entertained you.
Yesterday's story was...
All of it. Sorry... but thanks for playing along :)
I really am afraid of heights and even if Trev had paid a lot of money for a balloon trip, he'd be making the trip alone.
We went to Ireland with friends a few years ago and on a visit to Blarney Castle, we climbed to the top in order to kiss the Blarney Stone.
You have to lean out over a massive drop to do it properly. You are held in place by two big guys, but I'm afraid my trust issues don't run to trusting people I've never even met to hold me tight and not allow me to fall. Even if they got in trouble for letting me go, it wouldn't make me any less dead.
So no, I didn't kiss the Blarney Stone.
Today's story - Truth or Fiction?
A few years ago, Trev's parents retired from working the markets. They were into their 70s and figured they'd enjoy their grandchildren more if they had time to babysit. They used to work most of the week, including Saturdays; either at the markets or buying in new stock. Sundays were saved for 'filling in' - replenishing their stock to take to market.
When they retired, they decided to go on holiday. Before, they could only go three days at a time, missing out on the buying-in days, rather than any markets. I never knew them to take a day off - not for anything.
Their very first trip was to Jersey. It was a 'tester' flight - a short journey that Trev's dad believed wouldn't be too bad if they didn't like it. Plus, I suspect, if he really didn't like the flight over, he'd probably have caught the ferry and then taken a taxi home!
One of their first holidays was to Germany.
We had the task of keeping an eye on their house and we went down every day to make it look like it was occupied.
We'd sit for an hour or so, then close the curtains and close-up the house for the night - same as they did while at home.
One evening, we'd settled down, watching the news. The biggest story was the Berlin Wall coming down.
The phone rang. Trev's parents - in their 70s - were standing in their hotel room in Berlin, watching the wall coming down.
They hadn't booked that show!
A few years later, they took a trip to Russia.
You guessed it.
We didn't get a phone call 'as it happened' but we were exceptionally worried for a few days until we'd heard from them.
When they told us they'd booked a trip to France to see the total eclipse, a few years later, were we worried?
You bet we were!
My in-laws - catalysts of historic events.
Trev's mum always wanted to see Niagara Falls, but they never made it and I think they both believe they're too old to be travelling so far now.
Probably a good job... we don't want a sudden, unexpected drought there, do we?
So truth or fiction?
