I woke up feeling cold and hurting. I noticed that I was in a bed with nothing on. I tried to grasp what had happened, and I heard a voice call from the other side of the room, “Good. You are awake.” I slowly turned my head in the direction of the voice. It was Dr. Vivien, who seemed to have been expecting my awakening. “As you can tell, your trial was a success. By the way, I will be conducting your introductory session,” he stated in a very monotonous voice.
“What are you talking about?” I questioned. Before he could say anything else, a woman in a white lab coat opened a door and walked in.
“It’s a great day, today is the day you have been waiting for,” the woman said cheerfully as she walked over to the chair sitting next to the bed, and put out her hand. “I am Dr. Bauer, the woman responsible for your operation,” she stated as she grabbed my hand and smiled. “You can call me Dr. Bauer or Dr. B, whichever you prefer. Welcome to the other side of society.”
“What other side?” I asked angrily with sarcasm in my voice.”The side that helps maintain law and order,” she replied with a smile.
“In a way she is right,” Dr. Vivien interjected. “You are no longer a criminal, as your mind is now in a prisoner's body.”
“I don’t give a damn!” I shouted. “Where is my clothes?” Dr. B walked over to me, and I scanned her from her face down to her toes, thinking about how I want to rob her of something. She noticed this, and she backed off. “You do realize that you are now in a prisoner’s body, and that you can’t steal.” “And why can’t I?” I asked. “You can’t because you are part of our society, and part of our society means upholding the law. Comprehend?” she replied and walked over to the wall. A TV turned on, and a picture of a man’s head filled the screen. He was Spike Lee. He stared at the camera for a moment, than spoke. “Hello everybody, I am Spike Lee, and I am here to talk to you about a very important subject. I would like to thank you all for being able to watch me on this special day here at the old Washington Post building! I can’t tell you how excited I am to be doing this!”
“The man has a point,” Dr. B said. “We are a very special place here, as you are living in a pristine place.” “How is that?” I asked. “Throughout the world there are places where they are able to conduct experiments on criminals. The most famous of these places is the Island of Dr. Moreau.” “The Island of Dr. Moreau?” I asked. “Yes, and I am sure you have heard of it. The man that made this place was a mad scientist, in the 20th century of the last century. Moreau claimed to have studied the animal life of the ocean, and bred them to have the ability to function in our society. His experiments left many of the criminals of the time alive and healthy. Moreau then had another experiment by way of his pharmaceutical manufacturing company. He made a medicine that had the DNA of animals. The medicine was stable to all individual DNA, but still had a drastic effect on the user. The first produced heroes of the century left on a mission to destroy all the experiments. You know the rest of the story.”
“What do you mean by this?” I asked. “The experiment was a success, and the monsters of the past, began to spawn on the earth. That is why we have such a perfect world on the isle of Dr. Moreau.” “Well, can I get my clothes?” I asked angrily. “I just don’t understand how a place like this was able to find a place like this. It seems too good to be true.” Dr. B turned to Dr. Vivien who said. “I don’t care what you think of it. The isle of Dr. Moreau is a very perfect place, as the garbage that others until this day have described this place to be. The isle of Dr. Moreau started as a shipyard. All of the people with the criminal tendencies were cut off from the other people, and left with a place where they could live a minimalistic lifestyle. It was a great starting point for a society, that was able to grow and flourish on the isle of Dr. Moreau. It was designed to keep the criminal genes alive. The new additions of the criminals were taken in, and the offspring of the old criminals were able to live up to the full potential of their genes. The people of the past were able to send a signal to the rest of the world so that the world could no longer make progress. So many people misunderstood what was happening at the isle. They thought that human livestock were being produced for slaughter, but the truth was, they were there for recycling. Over the next few decades, many cosmetic changes were made to the isle. First, the buildings were completely white, to make it look like a heavenly place. The old buildings were removed and replaced with new ones. The non-human animal population was also reduced. The people of the isle took these non-human animals, and worked them to the bone. The predators, the guard dogs if you will, were assigned specific jobs based off of their ability to work in those areas. The people of the isle of Dr. Moreau were able to take this small piece of land and create a really great society, with almost no outside help.”
I was shocked at what Dr. Vivien had told me. Now I understood why this place was so pristine and well kept. All of the buildings were new. They were the most advanced buildings possible. Not only that, but everything was brand new. Not a speck of dust on the ground. Not a piece of trash on the ground. Everywhere that I looked my eyes spotted a bright white ceiling. “So, I am one of these experiments?” I said. “Uh, more of an experiment of genetics to say the least,” Dr. Bauer replied. “When you went through the trials, you were examined for different traits. Along with your criminal tendencies, they were testing in your potential, with what are called the “Dead Sea Scrolls.” Finding Dr. Moreau's manuscript was hard, that is until it was actually found along with the “Dead Sea Scrolls.” This manuscript and scrolls contained the secret of perfection. This society was able to use the secret of perfection to produce supermen, from the genes of the humans on the isle. As you can see from my skin, I am a pure specimen of Dr. Moreau's experiment.” I stared at her, and noticed that her skin was perfectly clear. Not a blemish in sight. I was thinking that she would give me a bubble bath with that perfect skin, and as if she had read my mind she said. “Yes, the water of the isle makes everything perfect.” She held up her hand and showed me her fingernails. “These nails are perfect for typing. No more mis-typing on a keyboard.”
I turned my attention to Dr. Vivien. He was a clean-looking man as well. He wore white armchairs, and white sweat pants. “So, all of us here are these…” I questioned. “Borderline perfect specimens, yes.” “Now that we have gotten the introductions out of the way, you will be staying here for a while,” stated Dr. Vien. “There is something called the Dilemma.” I turned my attention back to Dr. Bauer and said, “I have heard about the Dilemma before.” “That’s funny, I didn’t know you have heard of the Dilemma,” she replied. “Then how did you know what it was?” I asked. “We study the members of the past, and you have already provided us with the minimal information we needed,” she replied. “Well, it was something that I watched when I was younger, on a lot of TV and Movies.” “Oh, that’s right. You must have been forced to watch when you were younger, just as these days you must be forced to watch in order to practice our ways.”
A close up of Judge Moreau appeared on the screen, and the drone of his voice started. “Once again, I have to explain to you the Dilemmas. The Secret of Perfection is such a secret because of the information I am about to share with you right now. This information is only known about on the Island of Dr. Moreau. In the beginning, and I mean the very beginning of this isle, the secret of perfection was not only for perfection in ones self, but it was also for survival.
