Prabowo Subianto, an ally of the infamous dictator Suharto, was sworn in as the eighth president of Indonesia, the world's third largest democracy, on October 20. He won the election held on February 14, 2024, with 56.8 percent of the vote. According to the rules, if at least 50 percent of the votes are not received in Indonesia's elections, a second round of voting is scheduled for June between the top two candidates. But since he received more than 50 percent of the votes, Subianto will not have to fight for the second round of voting. The other two candidates, Ganjar Pranoya and Anis Baswedan, had said they would go to court alleging fraud in the election. But Prabowo Subianto escaped this journey because he received a majority.
