The previous parts of "Pixies In The Garden" are below:
Part 1 - Nora Makes A New Friend
Part 2 - Xenon's Lesson About Truth
Part 3 - Death Is A Rebirth
Part 4 - Fear And Bravery
After her last conversation with Xenon, Nora felt less uneasy with the menacing thunderstorm. She had managed to understand that the danger was not real and she was safely protected in her house with her parents and brother. The next day was also cloudy, but it wasn't raining anymore, so Nora got out to meet her little friend again.
- Hey, Xenon! You know what? I slept with the lights off last night and I didn't get scared of the thunders. Well, to be honest, I didn't get too scared.
- Ha ha! My little Nora, I knew you were a smart child.
- What are you doing today?
- I'm helping out the flowers that got stuck in the mud, look.
- Poor fellows.
- Yes, they are because they not only got covered in mud but the fallen leaves fell all over them and they are blocking the sunlight. If I don't help them, they will wither.
- Just like old Miss Hansen who lives round the corner. My parents say she was a pretty woman when she was young, but she withered after her fiance left her. Although I don't quite get it, Xenon. How can a person wither?
- I think I know what your parents meant by that, Nora. Did Miss Hansen love her fiance?
- Very much. He was her first love and never got married after their engagement was called off. People say he left because his parents wanted him to marry another woman, richer than Miss Hansen.
- I believe that she was too heart-broken to ever try to be with a different man. Sometimes when people give their hearts to someone, they cannot bear the pain of a break up again and choose loneliness. And Miss Hansen felt such disappointment, that she wouldn't dare let any other man in her heart again.
- Or they possibly don't want to give their heart to someone else. Like my uncle Ned, remember?
- This one too. Love for the grown-ups is really weird, Nora. For some, love is to offer yourself to the other, put their needs above yours and feel satisfied by satisfying them. Sometimes, though, people confuse love with total submission, they give themselves completely and once their partner is gone, they give up on everything else.
- Is that why Miss Hansen does nothing but taking care of her cats?
- Probably. She is trying to put all her loving emotions on those cute pets that keep her company. Sometimes an animal can be the perfect medicine to fix a broken heart.
- But you cannot marry your pet, Xenon, or have a family with it.
- No, you can't Nora, but you can show it all the love you are too afraid to show others. A break-up is hard, it is as hard as death sometimes.
- Like uncle Ned that lost his wife?
- Yes, like your uncle. He lost the love of his life, a woman that managed to make him feel like no other woman he had met. Their love was something beautiful and unique and once she was lost, a part of him was lost too. He couldn't let anyone else take her place, because he knew that any other woman, no matter how good she was, was only going to be a replacement, a substitute that would not manage to fill the void in his heart.
- So, when you break up with someone you feel empty?
- Yes, you find yourself alone, helpless and lost. It can be really really difficult to pull yourself together. It feels like your life had a meaning and then this meaning is suddenly lost.
- But why does only this love have to be the meaning of my life? I mean I will still have the love of my friends and my family. It's not as if nobody will love me anymore.
- This is very very true! But when you get to love someone the way Miss Hansen loved her fiance and your late uncle Ned loved his sweet wife, you will understand my words better. When you find a person that fits your soul and for some reason you lose them, you will feel like all the love in the world is not enough to make up for theirs.
- Did you find a pixie to love like that, Xenon?
- Not yet, Nora. Not yet.
- Well, I am sure you will and I believe when you do, she will never ever leave you, because you are the wisest and smartest pixie in the whole world. Now, I think I should visit Miss Hansen. Wouldn't she feel nice if I took her some cat food and drank a cup of tea with her?
- I believe she would, Nora.
- I'll see you later, Xenon!
- See you later!
