Yes, I believe so. The further you are from the norm, this seems to inhibit social interaction, or EQ. In many cases, at work or not, you really don’t have a “peer group”. This can cause a feeling of isolation, and inhibit social interaction. In early education, some can get “pigeon-holed”, and many of my highly intelligent friends had a lack of social skills or shyness in social situations as adults. This can be misinterpreted by others as being aloof or stuck-up. I was so shy in high school that I didn’t socialize normally and I found out later that many in my school thought I was just stuck-up or saw myself as better than them. I believe this caused many others to have feelings of anger towards me. Unless one finds a way to cope with this and try to “fit in”, it can lead to a very lonely existence.
Side note: On the show, Big Bang, Sheldon’s mother told him that if he keeps talking to others about his intelligence, it just pisses them off.
