Yesterday, I was going to recap WWE Extreme Rules. It was an okay PPV. I didn't recap it, not because of anything that happened during the event, but because, shortly before the event, WWE announced that they're reinstating known racist Hulk Hogan into their hall of fame.
When Hogan apologized for the things he said in the tape that leaked, he apologized for "the language used." There was no acknowledgement of the underlying racism. None has really materialized in the three years since.
For me, this decision by WWE is injurious, hurtful, and just plain wrong. I am considering stopping my weekly recaps of their programming. I am considering a hiatus in watching their programming. I hear Impact is doing good things these days, and I'm watching Lucha Underground and that's a lot of fun.
I don't know what I'll end up doing. But I couldn't, in good conscience, just cover Extreme Rules as if nothing happened.
