A little About El Feather Yoga,
I began my yoga journey 10 years ago. Yoga is something Iβve found to have always been with me though. Exploring movement as a young girl I loved gymnastics, dancing, running track, and diving. As many, Yoga found me when I needed it the most. Twenty years of age and almost zero physical activity, I had adopted an unhealthy lifestyle over the course of some years. I believed that it wouldnβt catch up with me, I believed I was invincible. Without interest in traditional forms of exercise, I recalled hearing people speak about yoga. Due to its intriguing mystery, I had to find out what it was! Finding Tara Stileβs YouTube channel it all began there. It was as if someone gave me a key to unlock this door of possibility and hope.
As I started to practice a sense of ease came to my mind and body. Not only that, but I could taste more deeply and appreciate these positive natural changes. I began to crave raw fruits and vegetables and that was nearly non-existent before. Through Yoga, I have learned to trust myself. This practice is a tool that can help us to see every moment as an opportunity for wholeness, love, and healing.
After years of developing a committed personal practice, I was interested in more insight and guidance. Patiently I waited and soon found out my friend and studio owner of Opal Yoga was giving her first yoga teacher training. These trainingβs at the time were not common in the area, so this was a rare and perfect opportunity to have.
Experience
In 2015, I graciously received my 200hr RYT from my teachers Para Yogini, Katie Silcox and owner of Opal Yoga, Karen Thomas. Studies included an in-depth focus on Tantra and Vinyasa Yoga.
Regularly I attend workshops and trainings. As I travel, I enjoy visiting Yoga Shalas and meeting the teachers there. I feel blessed to have had the honor of learning from such people as Jennifer Elliot, Krista Shirley, Tim Feldmann, Randy Aromando, Michelle Dorer, Megan Currie, Cuchira. This June I will apply myself towards a 100 hr Primary Series Ashtanga Yoga teacher training with Tim Miller in Encinitas, CA.
Yoga & Social Media
Eventually, my path lead me to the IG Yoga community on Instagram. I found myself embracing this whole new community I never knew existed. Which has grown to be quite large in the social media space today. I post pictures/videos of my progress in daily Yoga practice/life as well as entering Yoga Challenges. If you don't know, a Yoga Challenge is where each day for x number of days (usually 7-10) you have the challenge to take a picture of a particular yoga pose and post it. The challenge has hosts and at the end of the challenge, the hosts will pick a winner. Who typically gets a prize of some sort. The whole process, in turn, helps you gain more followers as well exposure.
I still participate and host these challenges today and I'm planning to begin hosting them here on Steemit once I am established! So if you're a yogi yourself, or you just want to add a bit of fun and movement into your life/day (and perhaps win something for it!), then give me a follow and be on the lookout for future challenges to come!
Instagram losing its charm
The Instagram scene is all well and good for what it is but at the end of the day its being WAY overly controlled. And I don't mean to preach this to the choir here but when it comes down to it, the Facebook/instagram mega corp. is who ultimately is benefiting from the content we all publish. There is no transparency into the workings of this beast either. At any random day, they make an algorithm change and all of a sudden your photo likes begin to drop or even worse your account suspended for breaking 'the rules'! The ones you didn't know existed. It is becoming a big headache to deal with and it is SO refreshing to see a new platform emerging like the phoenix rising from the ashes! One that allows the content creators to literally use their weight and mold the future of the platform.
Take Your Power Back
Its time we take our power back, one simple way we can all help is to put our intentions into a platform that is working towards all of our and their own benefits. One can not help another unless they first help themselves.
I'm jumping in and I hope the best for us all on this exciting new endeavour, STEEMIT!!!
Much Much Love, Namaste! ππ
