Hello all!
It's awesome to join the community and start chatting with everyone. First, let me introduce myself so that you have somewhat of an idea who the "newbie" is.
My name is Dawn and I am the mom of a wonderful 6 almost 7-year-old. Of course, that's my main job but who I am is so much more. I hope that over time and through my posts we all get to know each other and enjoy what we all bring to the Steemit table :-). Professionally I have been an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for 17 years. I think when I first started teaching in the early 2000s, wow, that makes me feel old....sorry to digress. LOL I loved being an educator and I especially loved teaching people from other countries the English language. I never designed my classroom as this strict place where you had to speak English, or else! I was the teacher that went against the grain and basically didn't follow the rules. My entire thought process was, meet each student where they are and support them in their desire to learn a second, in some cases a third, language. I believed I was there to teach the art of communication. It was never about forcing someone to meet a goal by the end of the semester or school year. We all live in this amazing world, and all have to communicate with one another, no? So why not transform this class into cultivating the art of communicating?
I still love teaching, but I think my time was up last year and I left the traditional classroom setting. I still teach as an adjunct professor which is perfect for me at the moment. This freedom allows me to develop how I'd like this part of my life to be.
So I guess you can say I am here on Steemit to be able to share with my fellow Steemers. I want to share my love for yoga, transcendental meditation, my vegan lifestyle, and I am really excited about learning from you how to dive into this cryptocurrency world. Plenty more as well! I am sure there are tons of people here I can and will learn from.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention how I got here! A wonderful friend of mine from undergrad mentioned this site to me months ago. I listened but wasn't really clear on how this all works. Now I'm here with you all and our community of friends. Something tells me I am in the right place!
