Doing the survey for youtube and it asked:
Why are you somewhat dissatisfied with YouTube as a place for video creators today?
Here is my response:
The oversensitivity of the platform has turned me off and not just me but thousands of other creators from gamers to political commentators. We feel like we're being mistreated by the platform simply because of our opinions that we share, and even the fact that we curse is now being used against us. We're only here because YouTube is the biggest platform there is and the alternatives don't generate as much viewership and revenue (for the ones who actually get to keep monetization). YouTube moderators who assess complaints from flags are driving more and more of us away in search of a different platform, any platform.
I upload my content on multiple sites now like D.Tube to Minds.com just so I can diversify my viewership. I used to only exclusively post my content on YouTube but as censorship on the platform increased, I as a political commentator, have no choice but to seek alternatives that protect my speech and protect my videos from censorship.
A political commentator on YouTube is not any different from a political commentator on MSNBC or Fox News, so why should big media groups get priority? Because they pay for adverts? It was CREATORS that helped this site grow, it wasn't traditional media.
A lot of us feel like YouTube has turned its back on the very creators that made the platform popular, to begin with. Before we could share our thoughts and discuss them more freely than today, but now everyone is walking on thin ice fearing that one wrong word would get their channel completely removed off the platform simply because ONE viewer was offended by the subject of the content we made. It's really sickening and it will be hard to regain the trust that YouTube has lost.
If you want to prioritize traditional media, then do so, turn YouTube into TV 2.0 if you must, but if you do then we'll be leaving. End the censorship and oversensitive policies. I shouldn't have my content limited just because someone feels offended... there are BILLIONS of people in this world, and its an IMPOSSIBILITY to please them all.
