The story started on Oct 2, 2017
A well know YouTube personality CaseyNeistat started a GoFundMe fundraiser for the injured victims and the families of those killed in the Las Vegas shooting with this video :
In the video, he states that he will donate all the ad revenue from the video to the cause. He raised more than $280000.
Meanwhile, on Oct 5, 2017 YouTube demonetized the video.
As of Oct 9, the video is still demonetized.
Here is the reaction of another YouTube personality - Philip DeFranco
Why is this interesting ?
For me, this is an example of how Google is destroying part of its business.
YouTube did grow hand in hand with creators like DeFranko (Wikipedia, Twitter) and Casey (Wikipedia, Twitter) and now it has turned its back to them.
Both built their fortunes largely hand in hand with the video sharing site.
DeFranko started a News Network this May, Casey has a successful media production company.
They know their business and are suffering from YouTube's new policies.
Why should we care ?
If these guys start expanding their online presence on the blockchain, that could be a win for Steem.
We should ask ourselves - what are the things that stop them from doing it and maybe focus some of our work there.
Even if they reject the blockchain, there is a lot that we can learn from their work and how they built their successful online business.
