Designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Korea, Bangjja is a type of traditional brassware, called ‘yugi’ in Korean, made from an alloy composed of 22% tin and 78% copper, a different ratio from most brass compositions. Being hand-forged brassware, Bangjjaa yugi has been regarded the best among all brass products. The unusual ratio of alloy produces a delicate golden color. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, Bangjjaa brassware is reported to sterilize some pathogenic microorganisms, such as O-157 and Vibrio. Moreover, it reacts to some toxic substances, with its color changing so that you can be alarmed. Bangjjaa tableware is strongly recommended, if you are afraid of food poisoning, or suspicious of someone poisoning your food.
