Hola comunidad de Hive, soy María Mercedes López Paiva y les presento la Proof of My Life.
Y esta historia comienza así: Nací en Caracas, Venezuela por allá en 1990. Cuando era una niña el contacto más directo que tenía a la tecnología era jugar uno que otro en el Nintendo, luego en el PS1 y ahora tengo un PS4 donde juego muy poco, realmente aprovecho la consola donde están instaladas las plataformas de streaming; la PC de escritorio que tuve en la infancia la usaba para buscar información y hacer tareas. Me entretenía más viendo novelas, películas y caricaturas. También, desde siempre me han gustado los deportes, soy seguidora del béisbol, futbol, fórmula 1, un poco de tenis y basket.
Si me preguntan por mis equipos favoritos, aquí les dejo mi lista: Leones del Caracas, Yankees de New York; Real Madrid, Manchester United - Chelsea, Milán y por el lado de equipos de selección, México e Inglaterra.

Hello Hive community, I'm Maria Mercedes Lopez Paiva and I present to you the Proof of My Life.

And this story begins like this: I was born in Caracas, Venezuela back in 1990. When I was a child the most direct contact I had with technology was to play one or the other on the Nintendo, then on the PS1 and now I have a PS4 where I play very little, I really take advantage of the console where the streaming platforms are installed; the desktop PC I had in childhood I used to search for information and do homework. I was more entertained watching novels, movies and cartoons. Also, I have always liked sports, I follow baseball, soccer, formula 1, a little bit of tennis and basketball.

If you ask me about my favorite teams, here is my list: Leones del Caracas, New York Yankees; Real Madrid, Manchester United - Chelsea, Milan and on the side of national teams, Mexico and England.

Durante el bachillerato tenía interés en las ciencias biológicas y el funcionamiento del cuerpo humano, hasta llegue a pensar estudiar medicina (cosa que no pasó). Llegaron los últimos 2 años de estudio y con ello la pregunta y una decisión que tomar... ¿Qué voy a estudiar y con ello a que me voy a dedicar? Bueno, aunque la respuesta no fue de selección simple, si tenía algo claro, quería estudiar algo que el día de mañana no tuviera que trabajar en una oficina.
Pensando y pensando que estudiar, un buen domingo mi papá y yo nos sentamos en la computadora y el me mostró el libro de oportunidades de estudio, revisamos literal todas las carreras e instituciones del país.
De ahí, surgió mi inquietud e inclinación por los estudios marinos, tenía como opciones a estudiar biología Marina o ingeniería marítima. Ese año 2008 luego de salir del bachillerato y a pesar de obtuve un cupo para la primera opción mencionada, pues económicamente mis padres no podían costear una residencia en Margarita. Al final ese año se convirtió en un año sabático, el cual lo aproveché y comencé a estudiar inglés ¡Exito!

During high school I was interested in biological sciences and the functioning of the human body, I even thought about studying medicine (which didn't happen). The last 2 years of study came and with it came the question and a decision to make.... What am I going to study and what am I going to do with it? Well, although the answer was not a simple selection, I had something clear, I wanted to study something that tomorrow I would not have to work in an office.

Thinking and thinking about what to study, one Sunday my dad and I sat at the computer and he showed me the book of study opportunities, we reviewed literally all the careers and institutions in the country.

From there, my interest and inclination for marine studies arose, I had as options to study marine biology or maritime engineering. That year 2008 after leaving high school and despite I got a place for the first option mentioned, because economically my parents could not afford a residence in Margarita. In the end, that year became a sabbatical year, which I took advantage of and began to study English.

Para el siguiente año, había hecho un DYOR más profundo sobre la ingeniería marítima y por ahí me fui, ahora era Mary una cadete de cubierta. Los años en la UMC (Universidad Marítima del Caribe) fueron increíbles y más allá de todo el aprendizaje académico, el aprendizaje en cuanto a crecimiento personal y emocional fue fundamental ya que me ayudó a prepararme para la siguiente etapa a la que iba.
Dato curioso, en la universidad estudió mi hermana (@Soymaferlopez), y un buen día en el año 2015, estábamos sentados tomando café y hablando, pero me hizo ruido un comentario de un amigo de ella, sobre Bitcoin, la moneda del internet. Honestamente, yo no entendía mucho cuando ellos hablaban de sus temas tecnológicos y lo que pensé de ese comentario fue: Ok, moneditas de internet tal como la de los juegos, eso es cosas de ellos y su informática. Hasta ahí llego la historia de Bitcoin, ya que hasta 2021 no escuche ni supe más nada de eso.

By the next year, I had done a more in-depth DYOR on maritime engineering and that's where I went, I was now Mary a deck cadet. The years at UMC (Maritime University of the Caribbean) were amazing and beyond all the academic learning, the learning in terms of personal and emotional growth was critical as it helped prepare me for the next stage I was going to.

Fun fact, in college my sister (@Soymaferlopez) studied, and one fine day in 2015, we were sitting around drinking coffee and talking, but a comment from a friend of hers, about Bitcoin, the currency of the internet, made noise to me. Honestly, I did not understand much when they talked about their technological issues and what I thought of that comment was: Ok, internet currencies such as those of the games, that's their stuff and their computer science. So much for the Bitcoin story, because until 2021 I didn't hear or know anything more about it.

El cuento continua y llegamos a las pasantías profesionales a bordo de un buque un año, yo salí de mi casa en marzo del 2016 y regresé en marzo de 2017, durante ese tiempo solo un par de veces pude ver a mi familia 1 día, ya que llegamos a Puerto Cabello y me dieron permiso de salir.
Algo que no mencione al principio, es que siempre me ha encantado la playa, pero en esos 12 meses me enamoré del océano, el tener la oportunidad de vivencias como disfrutar de un amanecer y un atardecer en altamar es impresionante, las noches de cielos iluminados de estrellas no se comparan con nada, si han tenido la oportunidad de asistir a un planetario, imaginen eso un X1000 en vivo y en directo.

The story continues and we got to professional internships aboard a ship one year, I left home in March 2016 and returned in March 2017, during that time only a couple of times I could see my family 1 day, since we arrived in Puerto Cabello and they gave me permission to leave.

Something I did not mention at the beginning, is that I have always loved the beach, but in those 12 months I fell in love with the ocean, having the opportunity to experience experiences like enjoying a sunrise and sunset at sea is impressive, the nights of starlit skies are not compared to anything, if you have had the opportunity to attend a planetarium, imagine that a live and direct X1000.

El buque donde estaba ya tenía 10 años, por regulación de seguridad debía ir a dique a recibir mantenimientos mayores, el detalle de esto es que el dique era en Turquía, un viaje transoceánico, donde estuve por primera vez 45 días sin señal de teléfono y donde me comunicaba con mi familia a través de correo electrónico una vez al día. Al fin llegamos a Turquía y comenzó la locura del dique, muchísimo trabajo a bordo, inspecciones, papeles y yo cadete inquieta queriendo estar en todos lados al mismo tiempo. Después de esas extensas jornadas de chamba pues no me quedaba a dormir, salía a conocer, uno de los beneficios de esta profesión es la oportunidad de ir a tantos lugares. Y esta no fue la excepción, la experiencia y el contraste cultural es de otro nivel, el darte cuenta que la forma de vivir, la comida, la vestimenta y las costumbres de esas personas no se parece en nada a la nuestra, sin duda alguna es enriquecedora.

The ship where I was was already 10 years old, by safety regulation I had to go to dock to receive major maintenance, the detail of this is that the dock was in Turkey, a transoceanic trip, where I was for the first time 45 days without phone signal and where I communicated with my family through email once a day. Finally we arrived in Turkey and the madness of the dock began, lots of work on board, inspections, paperwork and I was a restless cadet wanting to be everywhere at the same time. After those long days of work, I did not stay to sleep, I went out to visit, one of the benefits of this profession is the opportunity to go to so many places. And this was no exception, the experience and the cultural contrast is of another level, realizing that the way of living, the food, the clothing and customs of these people is nothing like ours, is certainly enriching.

Los meses fueron pasando y junto a las travesías en el mar muchísimas cosas pasaron, las cuales me hicieron crecer mucho como persona y darle aún mucho más valor a lo que ya valoraba. Es increíble como el verte solo rodeado de la inmensidad del mar te hace sentir un ser pequeñito. Aprendí a entender el verdadero significado de pasar un cumpleaños, la navidad, recibir un nuevo año, día de las madres o del padre lejos de casa, donde solo puedes hacer una llamada (si tienes señal) o enviar una foto, eso es lo más presente que puedes estar en tu casa.

The months went by and along with the sea voyages many things happened, which made me grow a lot as a person and give even more value to what I already valued. It is incredible how seeing yourself alone surrounded by the immensity of the sea makes you feel like a tiny being. I learned to understand the true meaning of spending a birthday, Christmas, receiving a new year, Mother's or Father's Day away from home, where you can only make a phone call (if you have a signal) or send a photo, that is the most present you can be at home.

Luego de esta maravillosa experiencia pues, terminé el ciclo universitario y prontamente volví a los mares ya como Oficial de Navegación. He realizado 6 excelentes contratos en buques tanques, transportando petróleo y productos refinados, además ahora como profesional he tenido la oportunidad de asistir 2 veces más a dique y los cuales me llevaron a latitudes lejanas (Corea del Sur). Es imposible dejar pasar una de las anécdotas más impactantes de mi vida, y es que cuando estaba en Asia literal estaba en el futuro, ya que la diferencia de horaria era de 12 horas, mientras yo desayunaba, en mi casa estaban cenando la noche anterior. En el año 2021 los dueños de los buques do de trabajaba decidieron llevarse los buques de Venezuela y cambiar la tripulación por personal Filipino. Al principio esa noticia fue más allá de mala muy triste. Sin embargo y como dice la siguiente frase que me decía un 3er Oficial: de todo y de todos algo se aprende.

After this wonderful experience, I finished the university cycle and soon returned to the seas as a Navigation Officer. I have done 6 excellent contracts on tankers, transporting oil and refined products, plus now as a professional I have had the opportunity to attend 2 more times to dock and which took me to distant latitudes (South Korea). It is impossible to miss one of the most shocking anecdotes of my life, and that is that when I was in Asia I was literally in the future, since the time difference was 12 hours, while I had breakfast, at home they were having dinner the night before. In the year 2021 the owners of the ships I was working on decided to take the ships out of Venezuela and change the crew to Filipino personnel. At first that news was beyond bad very sad. However, as the following phrase that a 3rd Officer told me says: from everything and everyone something is learned.

En agosto de ese año "se puso de moda" el juego Axie Infinity, y como al final nunca estuve tan lejos de la tecnología como yo pensaba ya que @Soymaferlopez es ingeniero en informática y ella siempre me contaba sobre esos temas, de ahí en adelante me llamo mucho la atención todo lo que hacía referencia blockchain.
Entonces empecé a leer y tratar de entender primero el juego, que los “muñequitos” eran realmente NFT, el hecho que tenía que tener una wallet para recibir los tokens que ganaba, abrir una cuenta en un exchange para intercambiar eso que ganaba por criptomonedas estables y luego por fiat, para mí eso era increíble. Recordé aquella conversación tomando café años atrás en la universidad, donde aquellas moneditas de internet se convirtieron en dinero real.

In August of that year "became fashionable" the Axie Infinity game, and as in the end I was never as far away from technology as I thought because @Soymaferlopez is a computer engineer and she always told me about those topics, from then on I was very interested in everything that referred to blockchain.

Then I started reading and trying to understand first the game, that the "tokens" were really NFT, the fact that I had to have a wallet to receive the tokens I earned, open an account in an exchange to exchange that I earned for stable cryptocurrencies and then for fiat, for me that was amazing. I remembered that conversation over coffee years ago in college, where those internet tokens became real money.

En septiembre del presente año conocí a @Cabeto y fue la primera persona que me habló de Hive, me interesé e investigué un poco más, sinceramente eso quedo ahí pausado y no fue hasta la Caracas Blockchain Week que escuché las ponencias sobre el ecosistema de Hive y me animé a entrar y formar parte de este grandioso ecosistema. Entonces tome las clases Hive desde cero con @soy-laloreto, muy buenas clases, de verdad te llevan de la mano y explicando el paso a paso de la receta de cocina para poder iniciar en esta blockchain social de forma correcta. Y pues aquí estoy presentándome ante ustedes.

In September of this year I met @Cabeto and he was the first person who told me about Hive, I got interested and investigated a little more, honestly that was left there paused and it was not until the Caracas Blockchain Week that I listened to the presentations about the Hive ecosystem and I was encouraged to enter and be part of this great ecosystem. Then I took the Hive classes from scratch with @soy-laloreto, very good classes, they really take you by the hand and explaining step by step the cooking recipe to start in this social blockchain correctly. So here I am introducing myself to you.
