Writers’ Block Book Club Writing Prompt #1: Me and the Yellow Wallpaper

Let me begin with my first impression of the book: I felt weak as *The Yellow Walpaper's protagonist*. I felt weak, because I sub-consciously compared the way I write with Charlotte Perkins Gilman's writing style which I really enjoyed. How do I dare doing so? I don't know, maybe I consider myself a writer and I'm jealous on a sub-conscious level. Will I ever be able to write as Charlotte or my writing skills will remain almost on the same level forever? It's definitely the most challenging task I ever had and will probably remain the toughest in my life. In a few paragraphs below I have summarized everything I felt about the book. It's not much, but I firmly believe that I will improve with the new book assignment.

My Reader's Experience with Yellow Paper

Somewhere at the middle I caught the gradual sequence of paragraphs that facilitates the reader to the logical end of the story. Closed in a room for the whole summer the protagonist was doomed to deepen her alarming symptoms. I felt very sad about the whole situation. I tried to imagine myself in the same conditions and environment; I even made an attempt to feel the world through John's wife’s eyes. 1st person POV is the only way for the writer to express all the feminine angles of a woman whose opinion is not considered important. Overall, it was a nice reading exercise for me as I was able to see how realistically writers can write. Reading novels is not something I do regularly.
