Desde hace tiempo, he venido haciéndole dibujos a mi sobrino, a mi primita, a mi hermana y a mi persona cuando toca el cumpleaños respectivo de cada uno de nosotros, ya lo he tomado como tradición y eso me inspira a ver cuánto he mejorado de un año en referencia al anterior a ese. En fin, desde el año pasado he decidido imprimir el de mi sobrina y mi primita, que también es como una sobrina y escribirles una carta, así guardarlas como recuerdo o bueno, mi hermana si lo ha hecho, mi prima ni idea. Por lo que en esta oportunidad les traigo el dibujo que le hice este año a mi sobrino Aarón y espero les guste el resultado tanto como a mí.

Mi sobrino ha tenido últimamente como una obsesión por los cohetes, luego de hacerle uno para la escuela, así que, en esta oportunidad sabía que debía ir vestido de astronauta, por lo que puse manos a la obra. Hice el boceto, más o menos siguiendo un dibujo de una ilustración de una astronauta que conseguí en pinterest, pero claro con los rasgos de mi sobrino.

Ya al tener el boceto y el fondo cambiado de color (para visualizar mejor los tonos), procedo a hacer las líneas en limpio.

Le agrego todos los colores bases a mi personaje y empiezo a detallar y agregar las respectivas luces y sombras.

Bueno, básicamente ya tenía listo el personaje de mi sobrino, pero faltaba hacerle el fondo, porque lo que, en otro documento, seguí con esta parte de la ilustración; al personaje de mi sobrino lo terminé exportando en PNG.

En uno inicio, tenia pensado hacer 3 escenarios divididos en rectángulos, uno que tuviese un cohete, en el otro la constelación de Aries y por último, un paisaje de un Universo o algo así (al final terminé cambiando cierto detalles).

Ya con los bocetos respectivos de esos paisajes, para darme una idea, en vez de hacer líneas en limpios, procedí fue con el color, para darle más ese toque de cuento infantil, no sé si me explico bien. Al cohete le di sus respectivas luces y sombras, guiándome un poco de los colores de la imagen original, a medida que iba viendo lo bonito que estaba el cohete, me arrepentí no haberlo hecho completo, porque si estaba quedando lindo, pero ya que, así quedaría.

Le agregue el respectivo fuego de despegue y unas nubes. Ahora bien, para el fondo, no quería detallarlo mucho, así que solo lo pinte de un azul entre verdoso y ciertas manchas tipo acuarelas.

Ahora bien, con el segundo cuadro, pues el cielo lo hice oscuro, ya que se supone que pondría la constelación de Aries y todo ello, para que se detallara mejor las estrellas. Y no solo la estrella, quise agregarle una pizza, o por lo menos un dibujo contorneado de la misma y ¿Por qué? Pueeeesss mi sobrino adora y ama la pizza, así que, pensé que sería un buen detalle, ya viéndolo así, debí dibujar pizza planeta jajaja; además de ello, el nombre de mi sobrino en la parte superior, aunque si me gusto el fondo, ya verán luego el motivo que terminé haciéndolo de nuevo.

Con el tercer rectángulo, pues me decidí dibujar un planeta y complementarlo con nubes, estrellas, sin mucho detalle la verdad, ya que, a causa de los cortes de luz, sentía que no me daría chance. Aunque el planeta me gustó mucho y fue lo más rápido que hice, me volví un 8 haciendo las nubes, no soy de hacer paisajes, no es mi fuerte, pero cuando algo no es mi fuerte, aun lo intento, me guio de otras imágenes, observo mucho y ahí me queda, así salgo de mi zona de confort.

Hacía y deshacía, nada me convencía, en un punto pinte el fondo del mismo color que la imagen 1 que ya había realizado, percatándome que todo debía tener con un mismo patrón, un mismo sentido de lectura visual, por lo que me dije que, después de esta, haría nuevamente la imagen del centro de esos colores. En fin, notarán en las imágenes, que lo hice muchas veces, hasta que quedó unas formas de nubes que me agradaran.

Tras ello, agregué unas líneas de los colores del planeta, estrellas, luces de distintos colores y bien saturadas, gracias a que puse le pincel en modo de fusión sumar y quemar, intercalaba ambas fusiones. Realmente se me hizo muy hermoso, las luces azules saturadas, parecían minis planetas iluminados.

Entonces, me dirigí nuevamente a la figura del medio, comenzando primeramente con el color de fondo, las mismas manchas azules estilo acuarela y siento que sí, desde un inicio hubiese empezado así, pues no tendría que haberlo hecho dos veces. Pinté primero unas formas de nubes y no me gustó, con el tercer intento, ya me agradó, sobre todo, al jugar con distintos tonos de un mismo color; luego, procedí hacer unas manchas de los mismos colores, manchas estilos puntos.

Así mismo, en la parte superior, la constelación de Aries, pensé que no se notaria mucho, pero si fue posible. Venia la pizza, no podía faltar y sabia que debía pintarla completa, no sentía que solo en líneas quedaría bien; solo la pinté con queso y salsa, porque es la que come Aarón, por lo que, detalles, que se diga, detalles, no tiene en sí.

Ya, para ir “finalizando” pues agregué todos los dibujos en un mismo documento y, como suelo hacer en mis ilustraciones, le agregué una capa de textura, con modo de fusión creo que luz suave, al principio superpuesta, pero no me gustó el efecto que dio y pues bajada de opacidad.

Tras ello, agregué la figura de mi sobrino y le añadí una sombra paralela, para hacerlo resaltar más.

Exporté la imagen, tanto sin el personaje, como solo el paisaje-fondo. En Photoshop, le añadí el nombre de Aarón y subí un poco la saturación del mismo. En este punto, ya tenia la idea de imprimirlo en tamaño tabloide, pero como también me gustó el paisaje, pues exporte uno con el personaje y otro solo el paisaje, con el nombre de Aarón en otra tipografía más resaltante.

For some time now, I've been drawing pictures for my nephew, my little cousin, my sister, and myself on our respective birthdays. It's become a tradition, and it inspires me to see how much I've improved from one year to the next. Anyway, since last year, I've decided to print out the pictures of my niece and my little cousin (who's also like a niece to me) and write them a letter to keep as a memento. Well, my sister has done it, but I have no idea about my cousin. So, this time I'm sharing the drawing I made for my nephew Aaron this year, and I hope you like it as much as I do.

My nephew has recently become obsessed with rockets, ever since I made him one for school, so I knew he had to dress up as an astronaut for this occasion, and I got to work. I made the sketch, more or less following an illustration of an astronaut I found on Pinterest, but of course with my nephew's features.

Now that I have the sketch and the background color changed (to better visualize the tones), I proceed to draw the clean lines.

I add all the base colors to my character and begin to add details and the respective highlights and shadows.

Well, basically I already had my nephew's character ready, but I still needed to do the background, so in another document, I continued with this part of the illustration; I ended up exporting my nephew's character as a PNG.

Initially, I planned to create three scenes divided into rectangles: one with a rocket, another with the Aries constellation, and finally, a landscape of the universe or something like that (in the end, I changed some details).

With the respective sketches of those landscapes in hand, to give me an idea, instead of drawing clean lines, I proceeded with the color, to give it more of that children's storybook feel. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well. I added highlights and shadows to the rocket, guided somewhat by the colors of the original image. As I saw how beautiful the rocket was, I regretted not having finished it completely, because it was turning out quite nice, but oh well, that's how it would have to be.

I added the respective takeoff fire and some clouds. Now, for the background, I didn't want to add too much detail, so I just painted it a greenish-blue with some watercolor-like splashes.

Now, with the second panel, I made the sky dark, since I was supposed to include the Aries constellation and all that, so the stars would be more detailed. And not just the star, I wanted to add a pizza, or at least an outline drawing of one. Why? Well, my nephew adores pizza, so I thought it would be a nice touch. Seeing it that way, I should have drawn "Pizza Planet," haha. Besides that, I added my nephew's name at the top. Although I did like the background, you'll see later why I ended up redoing it.

With the third rectangle, I decided to draw a planet and add some clouds and stars, without much detail, to be honest, since the power outages made me feel like I wouldn't have time. Although I really liked the planet and it was the quickest thing I did, I struggled with the clouds. I'm not one for landscapes; it's not my strong suit. But when something isn't my forte, I still try. I use other images as a guide, I observe a lot, and that's how I get out of my comfort zone.

I kept trying and trying again, nothing convinced me. At one point, I painted the background the same color as image 1, which I had already created. I realized that everything had to follow the same pattern, the same visual flow, so I told myself that after this, I would redo the central image with those colors. Anyway, you'll notice in the images that I did it many times until I got some cloud shapes that I liked.

After that, I added lines in the planet's colors, stars, and lights of different colors and high saturation. I achieved this by setting the brush to the "add and burn" blending mode, alternating between the two. I found it truly beautiful; the saturated blue lights looked like illuminated miniature planets.

So, I went back to the middle figure, starting first with the background color, the same watercolor-style blue patches. I feel that if I had started like that from the beginning, I wouldn't have had to do it twice. I first painted some cloud shapes and I didn't like them, but on the third try, I liked them, especially when playing with different shades of the same color. Then, I proceeded to make some patches of the same colors, dot-like patches.

Also, at the top, the constellation of Aries. I thought it wouldn't be very noticeable, but it was. Then came the pizza; it couldn't be missing, and I knew I had to paint the whole thing. I didn't feel that just lines would look good. I only painted it with cheese and sauce because that's what Aaron eats, so, as for details, it doesn't really have any.

Okay, to "finalize" things, I added all the drawings to the same document and, as I usually do in my illustrations, I added a texture layer, with a blending mode I think of as soft light. Initially it was overlaid, but I didn't like the effect it gave, so I lowered the opacity.

After that, I added my nephew's figure and a drop shadow to make him stand out more.

I exported the image, both without the character and with just the background landscape. In Photoshop, I added Aaron's name and slightly increased its saturation. At this point, I already had the idea of printing it in tabloid size, but since I also liked the landscape, I exported one version with the character and another with just the landscape, using Aaron's name in a more prominent font.
