Almost 13 years ago I was on the bike with my best friend. She was cycling and I was sitting behind. She was hungry so she wanted to go to Mc Donalds, but unfortunately it was already closed. We cycled through the city to another eating place. When we almost got there, a boy was riding in the opposite direction.

He said 'hey girls' but I thought he said 'hey melis'. In Dutch girls means meisjes and melis is a short name of my best friend. Because I didn't heard it correct, I said to my friend, he is calling for you. After I said that, she stopped and the boy also stopped. He and my best friend were talking for a while. I really thought they knew each other.

After a while he turned to me and started to talk with me for a couple of minutes. Then he had to go because his friend was waiting for him. He said to me 'I would like to see you again and give me a wink'. I was very impressed with him. I mean I was only 14, shy and insecure so when a guy from 18 is interested you can understand the impression. He gave me his email address so I could add him to MSN (for the ones who don't know it, that's a chatting program, very popular back then).

When he was away I asked my friend how she knew him and why she never told me about him. Now the funniest thing was, she didn't knew him. She only saw him once at the station and that's it. If I didn't heard it wrong we never stopped and I might never met him.

As promised I added him to MSN and when he was online we made an appointment for a first date. I can remember it like it was yesterday. He was waiting for me at the bus stop near by my house. I was so nervous that on my way to the bus stop I was on the phone with a friend who calmed me down.

We walked to the park and walked and talked for a few hours. He made me feel very comfortable. I never felt like that before. He said to me that he wanted me to be his wife and was talking about our future together. It was too good to be true so I didn't believed he really meant it. When we were walking back to the bus stop it started to rain. We sought coverage under the trees. He was holding me and looked straight into my eyes and asked, can I kiss you?

When he was away and I walked back to my home, I knew he was the one but I never could imagine that he could fall in love with me. Even though he had just said that he wanted me to be his wife. I was too insecure about myself and couldn't believe that he would pick me out of all the girls he could get.

But he really meant it. Tomorrow 19 July 2017, we are married for 6 years and over 2,5 week we are already 12 years together as a couple.

Do I believe in love at first sight? Yes I do!
