Great point. There is a reason bitcoin came about during the financial crisis. Hopefully it doesn't happen but if another 2008 like crisis did occur it might propel cryptocurrencies to the main stream.

Sometimes it's easier to design an engine when it's not running. So development may be faster than ethereum. It will be interesting to see if EOS can create enough value add versus ETH to make up ground
