# El último destello _~

Usando todas las herramientas que tenía disponible en su taller, se propuso a crear una trampa bastante sencilla pero a la vez efectiva. Atrapar este pulpo no iba a ser tarea fácil y él lo sabía muy bien, pues estos tienen la capacidad de escabullirse a gran velocidad, y según sus recientes observaciones, también podían usar la arena del arrecife como escondite ante cualquier depredador. En sus días de observación, también se dio cuenta de que había pequeñas cuevas, bastantes improvisadas donde podían esconderse temporalmente. Tenía la información necesaria para intentar su primera captura esa misma noche. Acudió al carpintero más cercano y le compro unos trozos de madera, clavos, un martillo y también pegamento especial. En la tarde, y utilizando ciertas referencias bibliográficas se dedicó a construir el primer prototipo de la que sería su trampa para pulpos. Uno de los vecinos lo visito solo con el motivo de indagar las actividades de André, ya que desde temprano había estado martillando, cortando y haciendo los ruidos característicos de quien está construyendo algo muy grande. Pero no era así, la trampa no media más de un metro, con poca altura, y el ancho exacto para que el pulpo pudiera entrar sin ningún problema. André había descifrado parte del comportamiento de estos animales en todas las noches de observación, por lo que era totalmente obligatorio para él, tener que plasmar las preferencias del pulpo turquesa en el diseño final de la trampa. Atendió a su vecino con bastante amabilidad, cuidándose en todo momento de no expresar la incomodidad y repulsión que sentía ante la inesperada visita. Sabía perfectamente que había venido solo para averiguar asuntos que no le concernían. Que desagradable era esta gente para él, pero no valía la pena entrar en discusiones, ni mucho menos perder el tiempo con explicaciones demasiado sofisticadas.

A simple vista la construcción no tenía mucha relación con la industria de pinturas. El vecino de André no hacía nada más que preguntar por su vida profesional, hasta que llego al tema de porqué estaba construyendo aquella caja. Armándose de mucha paciencia y educación, André procedió a responder de la forma más concisa posible, arreglándoselas para relacionar de alguna forma la trampa con un nuevo prototipo de contenedores de pinturas en el que supuestamente estaba trabajando. Su vecino, el cual no hacía nada más que estar en se casa, ver televisión y comer comida chatarra, se quedo impresionado con la descripción de André En el fondo él no quería ser impertinente, o interrumpir las labores de los demás, en sus ojos se podía leer una plena señal de curiosidad pura, de impresión y ganar de saber más acerca de cualquier tema. André termino por darse cuenta de que lo que él quería más allá de hablar sobre algún tema técnico en especifico, era hablar con alguien, que le brindara compañía y un poco atención. No estaba del todo mal tomarse esos 15 minutos en explicar algo que ni siquiera existía, era un descanso improvisado, pero solo eso. No podía darse el lujo de compartir demasiada información sobre sus planes con cualquiera, sin importar que tan buenas intenciones tuviera. Pasado ese tiempo, hizo lo posible para cortar la conversación de raíz y así poder alejar a su vecino, el cual al despedirse se puso a la orden ante cualquier ayuda que pudiese necesitar, ya que él en su casa tenía muy poco por hacer. André asintió con la cabeza y cerro su puerta completamente. En ese momento, y sin ningún intruso en su casa, procedió a terminar la trampa, incluyendo como primera aproximación un mecanismo sencillo pero eficaz que hiciera que la trampa se cerrara ante cualquier perturbación externa.

No pudo esperar demasiado, esa misma noche, y utilizando una trampa que había terminado hace pocos minutos, procedió a la caza del deseado pulpo, sin darle demasiada importancia a lo detalles que necesitaba afinar. El paisaje estaba más nublado que lo habitual, quizá al salir victorioso con el pulpo en la mano, se iba a encontrar con una gran lluvia. Los tanques de oxígeno estaban llenos a su máxima capacidad, por lo que tenía suficiente tiempo para esperar bajo el agua. Todos sus detectores estaban en orden. Se encontraba en la profundidad adecuada, rodeado de oscuridad e incertidumbre, pero también envuelto en un gran sentimiento de seguridad, ya que finalmente iba a poder lograr su objetivo. La trampa seguía inmóvil. Pero de un momento a otro pudo detectar nuevamente la señal del animal, y en efecto se encontraba dentro de la trampa, intentando escapar desesperadamente. André nado emocionado hasta la ubicación de la trampa, rápidamente llegó y la tomo para comenzar a ascender, la peor parte del trabajo ya había pasado. Mientras subía, enganchó el contenedor del pulpo a su cuerpo, y al mirar hacia arriba pudo ver un leve destello de luz que venía de la luna. Ya el cielo estaba despejado. De repente sintió algo en su pie izquierdo, lo estaba rodeando completamente, y luego con bastante fuerza comenzó a halarlo hacia abajo. No entendía que estaba pasando. El pulpo encerrado comenzó a moverse muy rápido, intentando nuevamente salir de la trampa. Mientras tanto André solo veía cómo el destello de luz se hacía cada vez más y más tenue. El oxígeno no era un problema grave, aún tenía otro tanque, pero estaba atrapado y algo muy grande lo estaba llevando a las profundidades más desconocidas del lugar. La presión del agua comenzó a hacer efecto sobre su traje de buzo- De un momento a otro sintió que lo estrangulaban por varias partes del cuerpo hasta desmembrarlo, su dolor era inmenso, pero se concentró en aquel destello de luz, el cual fue lo último que pudo ver en su vida. Using all the tools he had available in his workshop, he set out to create a fairly simple yet effective trap. Catching this octopus was not going to be an easy task and he knew it very well, as they have the ability to sneak away at great speed, and according to his recent observations, they could also use the reef sand as a hideout from any predator. In his days of observation, he also noticed that there were small caves, quite improvised where they could hide temporarily. He had the information he needed to attempt his first capture that very night. He went to the nearest carpenter and bought him some pieces of wood, nails, a hammer and also special glue. In the afternoon, and using certain bibliographical references, he devoted himself to building the first prototype of what would be his octopus trap. One of the neighbors visited him just to investigate André's activities, since he had been hammering, cutting and making the characteristic noises of someone who is building something very big. But it wasn't like that, the trap wasn't more than a metre long, with little height, and the exact width so that the octopus could enter without any problem. André had deciphered part of the behavior of these animals in all the nights of observation, so it was totally obligatory for him to have to reflect the preferences of the turquoise octopus in the final design of the trap. He attended to his neighbor quite kindly, taking care at all times not to express the discomfort and repulsion he felt at the unexpected visit. He knew perfectly well that he had come only to find out about matters that did not concern him. How unpleasant these people were to him, but it was not worth entering into discussions, much less wasting time with overly sophisticated explanations.

At first glance the construction had little to do with the paint industry. André's neighbour did nothing but ask about his professional life, until he came to the subject of why he was building that box. Arming himself with a lot of patience and education, André proceeded to answer as concisely as possible, managing to relate the trap in some way to a new prototype paint container he was supposedly working on. His neighbor, who did nothing but stay home, watch TV and eat junk food, was impressed with André's description Deep down he didn't want to be impertinent, or interrupt the work of others, in his eyes you could read a full sign of pure curiosity, of impression and gain of knowing more about any subject. André ended up realizing that what he wanted beyond talking about some specific technical subject, was to talk to someone, who would give him company and a little attention. It wasn't bad at all to take those 15 minutes to explain something that didn't even exist, it was an improvised break, but that's all. He couldn't afford to share too much information about his plans with anyone, no matter how well-intentioned he was. After that time, he did his best to nip the conversation in the bud so that he could get away from his neighbor, who, in saying goodbye, stood ready for any help he might need, as he had very little to do at home. Andre nodded his head and closed his door completely. At that moment, and without any intruder in his house, he proceeded to finish the trap, including as a first approximation a simple but effective mechanism that would make the trap close before any external disturbance.

He could not wait too long, that very night, and using a trap that had ended a few minutes earlier, he proceeded to hunt the desired octopus, without giving too much thought to the details that needed to be fine-tuned. The landscape was cloudier than usual, perhaps as he emerged victorious with the octopus in his hand, he would encounter a heavy rain. The oxygen tanks were full to capacity, so he had plenty of time to wait underwater. All his detectors were in order. He was at the right depth, surrounded by darkness and uncertainty, but also wrapped in a great sense of security, as he would finally be able to achieve his goal. The trap remained motionless. But from one moment to the next he could detect the animal's signal again, and he was indeed inside the trap, desperately trying to escape. Andre swam excitedly to the location of the trap, quickly arrived and took it to start climbing, the worst part of the job was over. As he climbed, he hooked the octopus container to his body, and as he looked up he could see a slight flash of light coming from the moon. The sky was now clear. Suddenly he felt something in his left foot, it was surrounding him completely, and then with considerable force he began to pull it down. He didn't understand what was happening. The enclosed octopus began to move very quickly, trying again to get out of the trap. Meanwhile André could only see the flash of light getting fainter and fainter. Oxygen was not a serious problem, he still had another tank, but he was trapped and something very big was taking him to the most unknown depths of the place. The pressure of the water began to take effect on his diving suit. From one moment to the next he felt that he was being strangled by various parts of his body until he was dismembered, his pain was immense, but he concentrated on that flash of light, which was the last thing he could see in his life.
