That's actually what I started on, I had and 8 inch dobsonsian! I think it was Orion's XT8. If you have an astronomy club nearby, go to one of their star gazing events, someone there will love to help

Hope you get some good photographs of the stars! If you're in the northern hemisphere the globular cluster M13 is very visible and would be an impressive target to photograph!

I primarily use Pix insight. It's like Photoshop but specifically made for astrophotography. There's a lot more math in editing astrophotography photos and it makes it real easy to understand and use it
