What dangers does Thimerosal pose to human health?

The substance may be toxic to kidneys, liver, spleen, bone marrow, central nervous system (CNS).

Mercury and Mercury compounds are listed as "Chemicals known to the State of California to Cause Reproductive Toxicity." (END QUOTE)

Thimerosal is known to go to areas of the human body, including crossing the blood brain barrier. There is substantial evidence from multiple sources which attribute neurodevelopmental disorders in children, specifically Autism, to the use of thimerosal in vaccines.

Neurodevelopmental disorders are pervasive and impose a significant burden on affected children, their families, and society. Mercury is a well-known neurotoxicant and efforts are being made to reduce the exposure of vulnerable populations to this environmental contaminant.

We were initially highly skeptical that differences in the concentrations of thimerosal in vaccines would have any effect on the incidence rate of neurodevelopmental disorders after childhood immunization. This study presents the first epidemiologic evidence, based upon tens of millions of doses of vaccine administered in the United States, that associates increasing thimerosal from vaccines with neurodevelopmental disorders.

An association between neurodevelopmental disorders and thimerosal-containing DTaP vaccines was found, but additional studies should be conducted to confirm and extend this study.
