Hello my travel friends, Our next trip on the list is Madeira, also known as the magnificent flower island. It is a Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Morocco and literally radiates from its colorful plants.

Hallo meine Reisefreunde, unsere nächste Reise auf der Liste, ist Madeira, auch als prächtige Blumeninsel bekannt. Es ist eine portugiesische Insel im atlantischen Ozean, westlich von Marokko und erstrahlt förmlich von seinen farbenfrohen Pflanzen.

Funchal

- is the island capital and cultural; economic center of Madeira, while the main industry is tourism. In addition, the city has a very beautiful location on the south coast of the island. The houses and streets stretch on the slopes of a mountain range up to 1200m high.

Außerdem besitzt die Stadt eine sehr schöne Lage an der Südküste der Insel. Die Häuser und Straßen ziehen sich an den Hängen eines bis zu 1200m hohen Gebirgszuges hinauf.

Fortaleza-Palacio de Sao Lourenco

The palace dates back to 1548 and is Funchal's oldest fortress. It is located in the historic center of the city and is currently the official residence of the Prime Minister in this archipelago and can not be visited.

Merado dos Lavradores - Market

The Merado dos Lavradores is a farmer's market, inaugurated in 1940 In the center of Funchal. All kinds and products of the island are sold to the tourists, but the largest area is occupied by the fruits and vegetables.

- is the oldest surviving street in Funchals, from 2011 by renowned artists with paintings on house and factory doors Were decorated.

Cabo Girão - Cape of Inversion

, is a cliff near the village of Câmara de Lobos. It is about 589 m and thus the highest cliff of the European Union. For tourists, it is popular as a vantage point with a glass bottom plate and as a starting point for paragliders.

We drive briefly to the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. It is the most important production areas for Madeira wine, before a small levada takes place.

Levada are artificial waterways with which water from the rain-rich areas to the agricultural areas are led.

Levada sind künstliche Wasserläufe mit denen Wasser aus den niederschlagsreichen Gebieten zu den landwirtschaftlichen Anbaugebieten geleitet werden.

- is the youngest and most modern Levada, this was only in 1966 put into operation.

After the hike we continue to Monte.

Monte

- is located 600m above Funchal. From 1893-1943, the cog railway Caminho de Ferro do Monte took over the transport of the guests from Funchal, but this was discontinued due to many accidents.

Nach der Wanderung geht es weiter nach Monte.

- liegt 600m oberhalb von Funchal. Von 1893-1943 übernahm die Zahnradbahn Caminho de Ferro do Monte den Transport der Gäste von Funchal, diese wurde aber auf Grund vieler Unfälle eingestellt.

Pico Arieiro

- is 1818m high and thus only the third largest mountain on Madeira, but he is the only one of the three, which is connected to a road and therefore the most visited. The parking lot is located directly below the summit and therefore a popular starting point for hikes, even for less than fit visitors. In really good weather, a wonderful view over the island of Madeira is revealed. Likewise, the neighboring islands of Porto and Ilhas Desertas, which are about 50 km away, can be seen with a clear view on the horizon.

Pico Arieiro

- ist 1818m hoch und somit zwar nur der drittgrößte Berg auf madeira, aber er einzigste von den dreien, der mit einer Straße verbunden ist und damit auch der meist besuchte. Der Parkplatz befindet sich direkt unterhalb des Gipfels und dadurch auch ein beliebter Startpunkt für Wanderungen, auch für nicht ganz so fitte Besucher. Bei richtig gutem Wetter offenbart sich ein wunderbarer Blick über die Insel Madeira. Ebenso sind die etwa 50 km entfernten Nachbarinseln Porto und Ilhas Desertas bei freier Sicht am Horizont erkennbar.

Vereda do Pico Castelo

- is our next tour. This is the longest tour on the island of Porto Santo and starts in Moledo on the regional road, then up the forest road. Continue south towards the Pico Facho.

Porto Moniz - the lava pool

Porto Moniz is a cute little town on the dramatic northern point of Madeira. It has become famous for its volcanic sea pools, which are naturally filled by the tide of the sea and an environment for swimming or paddling. A protection against the surf offers the small rock island Ilhéu Mole, on which there is a lighthouse.

Porto Moniz ist eine süße kleine Stadt am dramatischen nördlichen Punkt von Madeira. Sie wurde bekannt durch ihre vulkanischen Meeresschwimmbecken die auf natürliche Weise durch die Flut des Meeres gefüllt werden und eine Umgebung die zum Schwimmen oder Paddeln einladen. Ein Schutz vor der Brandung bietet die kleine Felsinsel Ilhéu Mole, darauf befindet sich ein Leuchtturm.

I hope you had a lot of fun on my trip and maybe you drive there yourself. It is worthwhile in any case;) Thus, we leave Portugal and travel to the southernmost corner of Spain, the Canary Island of Tenerife.

Ich hoffe ihr hattet wieder viel Spaß auf meiner Reise und vielleicht fahrt ihr auch selber dort hin. Es lohnt sich auf jedem Fall ;) Somit verlassen wir Portugal und Reisen in die südlichste Ecke Spaniens, auf die Kanarische Insel Teneriffa.
