You actually should be able to use Steem to pay for gift cards. Checkout with our altcoins checkout and you should see it :)

All of our Altcoins right now are through Coinpayments.net, This allows us to easily accept a large chunk of alt coins without writing a new payment process for each. I suggest perhaps contacting them
