Good idea, but adjusting the compass through trial and error until you get something that appears tangent to the naked eye, is not sufficient, there is a precise solution that will get you an exact bisection

They have a built in javascript engine, select "Auto" and then in the bottom right there is a dropdown that you can set to custom. See highlighted red rectangle in screen shot.
