RE: Aluminothermic Reduction of Iron Ore
Thermite is quite an interesting substance! I was honestly quite surprised with the results of this test because there are quite a few impurities in the iron ore so I did not expect as high of a yield

RE: Aluminothermic Reduction of Iron Ore
I am interested to see how other metal oxides will interact with the final product as well. I am also curious as to how hard it is going to be to control to carbon content in the final product by adding

RE: Smelting Iron Ore
No problem! I enjoy sharing knowledge which is why I am here! I plan on using the iron I make, depending on how much I get, to make a blacksmith's hammer and a knife.

RE: Smelting Iron Ore
The air turbulent (in terms of flow properties) when it comes out of the nozzle which gives it a cone like spread. I can simply move the compressor away from the air inlet to lower the air inflow.

RE: Smelting Iron Ore
In terms of the earthen door question, I could 'theoretically' remove the bloom from the top but that is borderline impossible and then I would have no good way to clean the furnace. It honestly isn't

RE: Smelting Iron Ore
I decided to build it because I really like to challenge myself and not many people can say they made iron (however small the amount) from rock. Now I just need to get enough to make something useful!

RE: Can metal pieces get stuck together in space?
Cold welding is a very interesting phenomena. Essentially the surface atoms 'see' each other on contact (since there is no oxide layer) and just join together covalently as if they were always one piece

RE: Making Iron From Scratch: Processing the ore and building the furnace
I have seen primitive technology and I will say his natural draft furnace is very impressive. My only concern about that furnace type is that the air flow is not as penetrating and regulated so you can

RE: Making Iron From Scratch: Processing the ore and building the furnace
Depending on the Iron yield, I will probably make a few knives and possibly an axe. I have about 300lbs of good quality ore at the moment and will probably end up doing a 100lb ore run to start and see

I will dedicate an entire article to this shortly after I get a few more flanges and components. The short version is that the electron beam current has relation (i think its linear-ish) to both the applied

I apologize for the lack of content as of late. My workload for my classes increased to the point where I did not have enough time to do any experiments or even write about the existing ones I had done.

Yes I have! I built this one first because it was very simple and I don't think anyone had tried this particular setup before. I plan on building a hall effect thruster at some point soon which uses magnetic

Thank you for the input! I was going to write a paragraph about the fuel but then it just escaped me. The purpose for the regular rocket diagram was to describe the basic process of a rocket operation,
