ENG Good evening friends, Welcome back to my Blog. Today we continue the discovery of the beautiful region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located in northern Italy. In particular, I will take you to discover **Venzone**, one of the most interesting **medieval villages** I have ever seen for its history and beauty. I’m sure that at the end of the post you will agree with me!

In particolare, vi porto a scoprire **Venzone**, uno dei **borghi medievali** più interessanti che io abbia mai visto per la sua storia e bellezza. Sono sicura che alla fine del post sarete d’accordo con me!

You should know that in **1976** this region was hit by a terrible **earthquake**, which completely destroyed many villages, including Venzone. The extreme **resilience** of the inhabitants and the commitment of the municipality made it possible to **completely rebuild the village**, stone by stone, in full respect of the original forms. This was possible only thanks to the presence of numerous **documents and photographs** that confirmed how it was before the earthquake. In some parts of the town it’s still possible to see the traces of the earthquake, for example inside the **Cathedral of Sant'Andrea**, where magically some parts did not collapse.

Dovete sapere che nel **1976** questa regione venne colpita da un tremendo terremoto, che distrusse completamente molti paesi, tra cui Venzone. L’estrema **resilienza** degli abitanti e l’impegno della municipalità rese però possibile **ricostruire completamente il borgo**, pietra dopo pietra, nel pieno rispetto delle forme originali. Questo fu possibile solo grazie alla presenza di numerosi **documenti e fotografie** che accertavano come fosse prima del terremoto. In alcune parti del paese è ancora possibile vedere le tracce del terremoto, per esempio all’interno del **Duomo di Sant’Andrea**, dove magicamente alcune parti non crollarono.

The ancient village of Venzone is completely surrounded by **medieval walls** and a defense tower is still visible: **Porta San Genesio**, dated 1309. Other attractions of the village are for example: - The **mummies** of Venzone; - The church of **Saints Anna and Giacomo**; - The church of **Sant’Antonio Abate**. In addition, the **woods and mountains** around Venzone are truly spectacular. There are many examples of wild fauna and endangered species. For this reason, the entire area is protected and is part of the **Natural Park of the Julian Prealps**.

Il borgo antico di Venzone è completamente circondato dalle **mura medievali** ed è ancora visibile una torre di difesa: **Porta San Genesio**, datata 1309. Altre attrazioni del borgo sono per esempio: - Le **mummie** di Venzone; - La chiesa dei **Santi Anna e Giacomo**; - La chiesa di **Sant’Antonio Abate**. Inoltre, **i boschi e le montagne** attorno a Venzone sono davvero spettacolari. Ci sono molti esemplari di fauna selvatica e specie in via d’estinzione. Per questo motivo l’intera area è protetta e fa parte del **Parco naturale delle Prealpi Giulie**.
