You seem somewhat confused The cryptonetwork guys are not "devs" except one or two of them but they aren't doing much development of any kind. Crypto enthusiasts would be a more accurate description.

There are 138 cryptos trading on Poloniex currently. It's not like they do any due diligence before adding new coins. They just couldn't miss the initial fat trading volume and wanted a piece of the action.

Bitcoin forked in a similar situation and survived just fine with its credibility more or less intact. I see a lot of wishful thinking and shadenfreude coming from the Bitcoin community.
