RE: Porcelain soft slabs
It's actually two paddles and one piece of a tree branch for the rings. I did carve the paddles, but I have others with natural wood figure as the design.

RE: Kiln Loading For Fall
Now that I finished the rear stack shown in this post, I estimated the count at about 300 pots. For the whole kiln, probably about 600-1000 pots, depending on the size.

RE: The Madness of Club Island
You're a scream. If Dave Barry was a Scot, he'd be you. You really need to come to Japan, I'd love to see what you come up with with that kind of blog fodder.

Thanks for sharing that! Great to see great potters at work. Plus, I really enjoyed his studio music. Haven't heard 4 Non Blondes in years...

RE: Flying Blind
If you don't like fire that much, probably an electric kiln is the way to go. Not so much contact with the actual fire. My favorite kiln is my wood kiln. I think most wood kiln firers have at least a little

RE: My Favorite Pottery Tool, by far!
They are AMAZING if you work with short clays and/or porcelain. If you're working with plastic clays, standard ribs might be better. Large amount of contact surface area gets kind of sticky with plastic

RE: How a Rock Becomes a Pot: Part 4
Thanks! I love the concept of making something of beauty and value, from something as worthless as dirt. It is a cool thing...

RE: My Favorite Pottery Tool, by far!
The great thing about pottery is you can make your own tools, even the kiln. You don't need a studio, just some table space. Go for it!

RE: 500 Years of Pottery
Yes! I think we modern humans tend to dismiss the intelligence of those who came before, just because of our technological superiority. They knew so much that we have forgotten.
