RE: Mars Independence Timing 7/8: 2038-39: Transport, Compute, Defence Gates Close
I'm sure some industrious martians will look into it - would you go with all this set up for you?

The 2026 windows is possible but hard. Until we see an in-space refuel it's still up in the air.

RE: Mars Independence Timing 3/8: The 8 Gates to Full Sovereignty
You raise a good point. I don't think materials will be a problem once mining is in full swing, but the machines are a factor. A couple of things may mitigate this. The people who make the machines on

RE: Mars Independence Timing 2/8: Window 1 (2031-32)
Be whole industry of it's own - specially because it will probably stream 24/7 (with a small delay). Lot's of opportunities if you're in quick 🙂. Here are some I prepared earlier.

Yes, lots of talk about how much the androids will need to be hardened for radiation. Being humanoid, they also have the option of wearing cloths. Radiation and dust resistance overalls for example, since

RE: Mars Independence Timing 1/8: The Three-Window Fleet
Sure, this first window is the key. Even sending one ship this year should be possible as long as there is refueling. Re-use is a benefit but could still launch without it by expending a few rockets. I'm

RE: Mars Independence 10/12: Economy & Industry on Mars
Good point, didn't quite get the right. Here's a better/clearer (I hope) explanation. (Maybe I'll update the doc with this as well if it makes more sense to you.) Mars produces propellant dirt cheap locally.

Yes, it's from NASA. Apparently they measure atmospheric optical depth (tau, where higher values mean more blockage). During storms, the issues is less about dust settling, but about the blockage in the

Vertical panels will definitely help reduce the risk to dusk build up which will help. However, so storms do reduce sun a lot. Large batteries will help, but not for the big ones. Here's some examples.
