Michael’s mother read several flying stories, when he was grown. Her stories always describing the earth like a bird see it. Her joy and passion by the details illuminated and beautify Michael’s dream. The continuous dreamed that was running by a country road. He could feel the stones and the clod at his feet.

When he was running by the flied of gold wheat he always exceed the locomotive that passed by there. In the exactly moment that he breathed deeply he start to elevate of the land and like eagle.

The place when he flight always coincided with his mother’s stories at any place, when he flight he took note at the details with the free spirit from his mother’s love. By the way his father wasn’t a dreamer. Bert Stone was a totally realist person. He believed in a hard job and sweat. His lemma was: “ !if you desire something, work to obtain it!” Since 14 years old, Michael Stone just did it. He began a program of uprising dumbbell very careful and reglamented. He used to work with dumbbells every third day, during the others days he running. Michael’s trainer and father keeped guard carefully the program. We couldn’t know if Michael was surprises, enthusiast or proud by jump the bar with five meters of higher as soon as he fell over the inflated mattress with all the people at his feet Michael began immediately to prepared for his next intent. He could forget the fact that he finish his better jump by seven and a half, and five meters and a half centimeters and he was final competitor in the event pole vault at the Mini Nationals Olympic Games when Michael jumped the bard higher of five meters, twenty eight centimeters and a half, once again he didn’t show emotion.

The constant preparation and determination was his vision. At lay over his back and heard the people groaning he knew that was his final jump moment. Because the other jumper have fallen less jumps. Michael needed jump this bar to win if he fallen he would be in the second place. That wasn’t to be ashamed. He thought that this correspond at two and a half centimeters less the national record. That moment intensity filled his brain with anxiety. He started to free the tension of his body, but it doesn’t work. He put more tense. Why this happen now to him? He started nervous, perhaps fearful could be a better description. What he would do? He never has feeling those feels. Soon, of nothing and deeper of his soul, he saw his mother. Why now? What would do his mother in his thoughts in a moment like these .It was simple. His mother always used to tell him that if he feel tense, anxiety or have fear, take a deeper breath a few times. He did it that, the tensions disappear and softly he put the pole at his feet. He began to stand his arms and lift his body. The light breeze has disappear yet. He felt clod sweat that ran by his back. Carefully he rose the pole and felt beat his heart. He was sure that the people hear him also. The silence was deafening . When he heard the song of some robin in flight he knew that was his moment to fly. At start to run by the trace something was marvelous different but also familiar. He felt the surface down him like country road with he used to dream . The stones, the clod and views of gold wheat seem to take his thoughts. When he breathe deep, it happens. He started to fly . He taked of without effort. Michael was flying like he did in his childhood dreams. Only That in this chance he knew that he wasn´t dreaming, this was real. Everything seem to move in slowly camera. The sound around him was the most pure and fresh that he had felt. Michael was flying with the majestic of an eagle. Was the tumult of the people in the gallery or the noise that occur.

At fall down what did that Michael back to the reality. Over his back with this marvelllous and warm soon over his face, he knew that only could see the smile of his mother face, he knew that was probably that his father also was smiling or including laughing. Bert always did that when he enthusiasm to much, he smiled and then laugh what he didn’t know was that his father was embrasing his wife and cry. That is Bert: “If you desire something, work to obtain it!” Bert Stone cried like a baby in the arms of his wife cried more loudly that Mildred had seen cry. She also knew that he cried the best tears: the proud tears.

Immediately the people were around Michael, hugged him and congratulated him by the huge success of his life. The, this day he jump five meters with 35 centimeters and National and international record in the Mini Olympiads with all the attention of the media communication, the possibilities of helping and the most number of congratulations. Michael’s live wouldn’t be the same not only because he was win the Mini Nationals Olympic Games and set a new world record. Not was because he finish his best jump for 23 centimeters. It was simply because Michael Stone is blind."

Sus palmas sudaban. Necesitó una toalla, para secar su puño. Un vaso de agua helada sació su sed, pero apenas enfrió su intensidad. El Atroturf donde se encontraba sentado estaba tan caliente como la competencia que enfrentaba ese día en las Mini olimpiadas Nacionales. El poste estaba colocado a unos cinco metros; siete centímetros más alto de lo que él podía saltar. Michael Stone enfrentaba el día más desafiante de su carrera en el salto de garrocha.

Las tribunas estaban llenas con 20.000 personas aproximadamente, a pesar de que la carrera final había terminado una hora antes. El salto con garrocha es en verdad el evento mas atractivo de cualquier competencia de campo y pista. Combina la gracia de un gimnasta con la fuerza de un levantador de pesas. Tiene también el elemento de volar y el pensar en volar a la altura de un edificio de dos pisos es una simple fantasía para cualquier persona que observe tal evento. En la actualidad, no es sólo la realidad y el sueño de Michael Stone, sino que es su búsqueda. Desde que Michael recuerda, siempre soñó con volar. La madre de Michael le leía numerosas historias sobre el vuelo cuando el crecía. Sus historias describían siempre la tierra como la ve un pájaro. El lugar donde volaba coincidía siempre con las historias de su madre. A cualquier sitio que volaba lo hacía notando los detalles y con el espíritu libre del amor de su madre. Por otra parte su papa no era un soñador. Bert Stone era una persona totalmente realista. Creía en el trabajo arduo y el sudor. Su lema era: ¡Si deseas algo, trabaja para obtenerlo! .

Desde la edad de los 14 años, Michael hizo justamente eso. Inició un programa de levantamiento de pesas muy cuidadoso y reglamentado. Trabajaba con las pesas cada tercer día y durante los otros días corría. El entrenador y padre de Michael vigilaba cuidadosamente el programa. La dedicación, la determinación y la disciplina de Michael eran el sueño de un entrenador. Además de ser estudiante excelente era hijo único, Michael Stone continuaba Ayudando a sus padres con las tareas de la granja. La persistencia de Michael para lograr la perfección no era solo su obsesión, sino también su pasión.

Michael Stone, la madre de de Michael deseaba que él pudiera relajarse un poco mas y ser de nuevo ese niño pequeño “soñador”. En una ocasión, intento hablar con él y su padre sobre esto, pero el papa la interrumpió de inmediato, sonrió y dijo : ¡si deseas algo, trabaja para obtenerlo!

Todos los saltos actuales de Michael parecían ser la recompensa por su trabajo arduo. Uno no podía saber si Michael Stone estaba sorprendido, entusiasmado o arrogante por saltar la barra con una altura de cinco metros. Tan pronto como cayó sobre el colchón inflado , con la multitud a sus pies, Michael empezó de inmediato a prepararse para el siguiente intento.

Parecía olvidar del hecho de que acababa de superar su mejor salto por siete y medio centímetros y que era uno de los dos competidores finales en el evento de salto con garrocha en las Mini Olimpiadas Nacionales. Cuando Michael salto la barra a una altura de cinco metros, veintitrés centímetros y medio y de cinco metros veintiocho centímetros y medio, una vez mas no mostró emoción. La preparación constante y la determinación eran su visión. Al recostarse sobre la espalda y escuchar el gemido de la multitud supo que el otro saltador había fallado su salto final. Como el otro saltador había fallado menos saltos, Michael necesitaba saltar esta barra para ganar. Si fallaba quedaría en segundo lugar. Eso no era para avergonzarse, pero Michael no se permitió pensar que no ganaría el primer lugar.

Rodó y llevo a cabo su ritual de tres planchas con la punta de los dedos, junto con tres planchas al estilo de los marinos. Tomó su garrocha, se puso de pie y caminó por la pista que conducía hacia el evento más desafiante de su vida de 17 años.

Sintió la pista diferente en esta ocasión. Esto lo sorprendió durante un momento breve. Entonces comprendió de pronto lo que sucedía. La barra estaba colocada 22 centímetros y medio más alto que su mejor salto. Pensó que eso correspondía a dos y medio centímetros menos del record nacional. La intensidad del momento ocupó su mente con ansiedad. Empezó a liberar la tensión de su cuerpo, pero no dio resultado. Se puso más tenso. ¿Por qué le sucedía eso ahora? Empezó a sentirse nervioso, aunque temeroso sería una descripción más precisa. Que iba a hacer? Nunca había experimentado esos sentimientos. De pronto, de la nada y de lo más profundo de su alma, vio a su madre. ¿Por qué ahora? ¿Qué hacia su madre en sus pensamientos en un momento como ese? Era simple. Su madre siempre solía decirle que cuando se sintiera tenso, ansioso o incluso asustado, respirara profundo varias veces.

Así lo hizo. La tensión desapareció de sus piernas y con suavidad colocó la garrocha a sus pies. Empezó a extender los brazos y a levantar el cuerpo. La brisa ligera ya había desaparecido. Sintió sudor frio que corría por su espalda. Con cuidado levantó la garrocha. Y sintió latir su corazón. Estaba seguro de que la multitud lo oía. El silencio era ensordecedor. Cuando escucho el canto de algunos petirrojos en vuelo, supo que era el momento para volar. Al empezar a correr por la pista algo parecía maravillosamente diferente, pero también familiar. Sentía la superficie debajo de él como el camino campestre con el que solía soñar. Las piedras, los terrones y las visiones de los campos de trigo dorados parecían ocupar sus pensamientos. Cuando respiró profundo sucedió. Empezó a volar. Despegó sin esfuerzo. Michael Stone volaba como lo hiciera en sus sueños infantiles. Solo que esta ocasión que no estaba soñando. Esto era real . Todo parecía moverse en cámara lenta. El aire a su alrededor era el más puro y fresco que había sentido. Michael volaba con la majestad de un águila.

Fue el alboroto de la gente en las tribunas o el ruido que produjo al caer lo que hizo que Michael volviera a la realidad. Sobre su espalda, con ese maravilloso y cálido sol sobre el rostro, sabía que solo podía ver la sonrisa del rostro de su madre. Sabía que era probable que su papa también estuviera sonriendo e incluso riendo. Bert siempre lo hacía cuando se entusiasmaba demasiado, sonreía y después reía. Lo que no sabía era que su papa estaba abrazando a su esposa y lloraba. Así es: Bert, “si lo deseas, trabaja para obtenerlo”. Stone lloraba como un bebe en los brazos de su esposa. Lloraba más fuerte de lo que Mildred lo había visto llorar. Ella también supo que lloraba las lágrimas mejores: las lágrimas de orgullo. De inmediato, la gente rodeó a Michael, lo abrazó y felicitó por el logro más grande de su vida. Más adelante, ese día salto cinco metros con 35 centímetros: un record nacional e internacional en las Mini Olimpiadas.

Con toda la atención de los medios de comunicación, las posibilidades de apoyo y la multitud de felicitaciones, la vida de Michael no volvería a ser la misma. No era sólo porque había ganado las mini olimpiadas nacionales y establecido un nuevo record mundial. No era porque acababa de superar su mejor salto de 23 centímetros . Era simplemente porque Michael Stone era ciego.
