Delight in the satisfaction of making your own beautifully shaped Kaiser rolls at home. These soft and golden rolls are perfect for making gourmet burgers or enjoyed on their own with a bit of butter.

Ingredients
🌾 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, King Arthur
🍶 1 ¼ cups warm water
🍯 2 tablespoons honey, Nature Nate’s
🍶 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, Crisco
🍞 2 teaspoons instant yeast, Fleischmann's
🧂 1 ½ teaspoons salt, Morton
🌱 1 large egg, Vital Farms
🥄 1 teaspoon poppy seeds optional, Bob’s Red Mill
Instructions
1- Prepare the Yeast Mixture:
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and honey, stirring until the honey is completely dissolved.
- Sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. This ensures the yeast is active.
2- Mix the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, vegetable oil, and egg to the flour. Stir until a dough begins to form. You may use a spoon initially and then switch to your hands as the dough comes together.
3- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- If available, use a stand mixer with a dough hook (KitchenAid Artisan) for about 7 minutes on medium speed.
4- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1 to 1 ½ hours, until it has doubled in size.
5- Shape the Rolls:
- Punch down the dough to deflate. Divide it into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten slightly.
- To achieve the traditional Kaiser roll shape, use a Kaisersemmel stamp or manually knot each piece.
6- Second Rise:
- Place the shaped rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rise again for about 45 minutes until puffy.
7- Preheat and Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
- Lightly brush the risen rolls with water and sprinkle poppy seeds on top if desired.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
8- Cool and Serve:
- Let the rolls cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.

- If your kitchen is cold, use an oven with the light on or a proofing drawer to help the dough rise.
