There are **3 different types** of keyboards available for Panasonic Toughbooks. The most common one is the **STANDARD** keyboard with no special features. The next would be the **BACKLIT CHICLET EMISSIVE** keyboard that is standard on BLACK COBRA Toughbook CF-30 and CF-31 models (upgrade available on CF-19). This keyboard has 4 levels of backlight for use at night, it is water resistant and is very easy and comfortable to type on. The **RUBBER** keyboard is fully WATER PROOF and has the back light option as well, but frankly is very hard to type on, due to the firm rubber material that cover the keys. I would only recommend this keyboard if you have extreme exposure to the elements or maybe in a garage or shop where mechanics might be typing with oily, greasy fingers, etc...

The fully RUGGED Panasonic Toughbook CF-19, CF-30 and CF-31 house the hard drive in a metal enclosure referred to as a caddy. Inside is foam padding that protects the hard drive, so if you dropped the laptop it would help protect the hard drive.

1) SSD has no moving parts, so even if the Toughbook was dropped, your data would be safe. 2) They are more reliable. This is by far the best upgrade you can make on any computer. 3) SDD drives are much FASTER than the older SATA hard drives which many sellers use.

TOUGHBOOK touch pads are **RESISTIVE** panels vs **CAPACITIVE** that most users are used to.

**CAPACITIVE TOUCH PANELS:** Work by sending a small charge into your fingertip completing the circuit. That distortion is tracked and the coordinates of the mouse cursor on the screen move in tangent with your fingertip. This is how most screens on cell phones and mouse pads on laptops work. **RESISTIVE TOUCH PANELS:** Panasonic Toughbooks use this method which requires MORE pressure to work properly because the top layer of the touch pad must touch the bottom layer to complete the circuit and track your movements.

Why did Panasonic choose RESISTIVE technology for the Toughbook line? 1) If you happen to work in a hot, humid or wet environment the standard consumer capacitive technology will not work well, especially if your fingers are sweaty or dirty. Which is a huge reason why resistive wins the race here. 2) You can also using it while still wearing gloves (Would not work with capacitive pads) 3) Resistive panels are more rugged and last longer, they are designed to last for many years.

Most consumer laptops are now made in China with cheap plastic parts that have poor reliability. They REALLY do not make them like they used to... I remember the older Lenovo models over 10 years ago were of amazing quality and the keyboards were just fantastic. Now, not so much... It seems most electronics are now made to be disposable, which is quite sad... If your business cannot afford any downtime or equipment failure, than there is no better choice than a Toughbook.
