Sunday the 1st of September, my last day of freedom for the time being - Freedom to cycle in the sunshine to places like this:
Although, that's not where I was or what I was doing today. Today was the final day of preparation before my latest venture to another mans desk, doing what another man says.
House chores, shopping for shirts and ties, and don't forget the coffee and cake before heading home. I cut my own hair this evening too, although that's been the case for a number of years now. Eight pounds saved, and I normally do a better job than the hungover barber I (for some reason still) visit in Nottingham.
It's been a nice weekend actually, the end of August usually spells the end of the summer in the UK, although there could well be one decent week left before the grey sets in, and everyone is in the street is looking at the floor wishing it would eat them for 6 months or so.
I'll be in an office, probably not caring too much that it's blowing a gale and pissing down outside. And I'll probably be thinking about places like the above - that one, a small Cala on the southwest corner of the Island of Mallorca.
One day I hope to be cycling in hot sunny places again, but until then:
Those on the ball may recognise that the above text was planned for Sundays post, but it seems we've had some issues over the past day or so - to say the least!
So today I started my new job, or at least went to the new office and got talked at for 8 hours. Policies, registration, inductions, etc, all the necessary evils when starting a new job.
That aside, the place feels Ok. It was quiet in the working area, my manager has kids around my daughters age and was keen to chat about them over work related stuff, and even let me leave early.
What is nice is the commute, so nice that I can take 2 trips to work and back each day as I head home for a cheap lunch. This will save some cash, but also stack up the points - and that's without hitting the gym, which I hope will start in the next month or so.
So far so good, onto day 2.......
And it's now the end of day two at work - no post last night either due to Steem still not functioning properly.
There is a lot to take in, and I'm registered onto something like 70 online courses to take over the next couple of months. My manager told me that he'd expect me to take breaks hourly or else I'd be losing my mind going through this 'work'. I'm keen to get going on the real stuff to be honest.
Today I took a walk to the post office to post the paper copy of the contract. This took up most of my lunch hour but I didn't mind as the exercise, to help repair my dodgy need was much needed, and i got to rack up a 10000+ steps in the process.
Alright, I'm not going to be happy if this doesn't work! - Steem looks to be functioning again, so let's see....
Cheers
Asher
