I decided to give my legs a break from the stresses of running today and went for a cycle ride instead. I had been wanting to check out the #Biggleswade Green Wheel. This is one of a number of walking and cycling routes around towns in Bedfordshire. Biggleswade is just north of Arlesey, where I live, and not too bad to cycle to. You can do a fair bit of the route off the roads. I joined the wheel at Jordan's Mill, where the breakfast cereals are made. The route is a mix of surfaces, but some will be improved. Some of it is in the countryside, but you have to pass through part of the town.
This is another mill in town that may have been converted to housing.
I hadn't seen Shortmead manor house before. Looks nice and is apparently used for weddings.
Yes, that's my finger. I used my little action camera.
The route is pretty flat. There are a couple of level crossings and it passes under the A1 road. I did take a few diversions where I lost the track. There's a huge housing development to the east of town and you could not get through areas where they are still building. I did manage to ride most of the wheel, but they could do with a few more signs. There is a longer route that is for walkers only.
It was pretty chilly first thing and my hands got cold, but it warmed up later. The sun was shining and that helped. I was taking it steady as I wanted to keep going. I did speed up a bit on the way back to try and and keep up with some other cyclists. There were lots about and most gave me a nod or 'good morning'.
I was feeling tired by the end, but it was an enjoyable ride. I may do it again some time.
I've lost a little more weight recently. That's less to lug around when I'm running.
