I bought a bag of activated charcoal at Grocery Outlet on a whim.
So I had to make black smoothies.
As one does...
It was pretty simple to put together. I just piled frozen mixed berries, coconut yogurt, a banana and a generous pour of almond milk in a 1-quart measuring cup. Then I blended with a hand blender. (I never measure my smoothie ingredients -- I just eyeball everything.) I knew I wanted to layer the smoothie with different colors, so at this point, I poured half the purple mixture into another measuring cup. I then added a big spoonful of activated charcoal powder to the remaining smoothie and blended again.
Next, I spooned the two mixtures into glasses, alternating the purple and black layers and stirring gently between layers to swirl them together a little. Finally, I topped the mixture with some fancy rainbow sprinkles.
This made three large smoothies. My kids loved them!
